I never miscue a record. I am punctual, well-prepared, and dislike clutter. Outgoing and helpful, I'm always appropriately dressed. I do not behave erratically and have excellent penmanship. My CD's never skip, and I am in good health. I like all the notes, in any order.

i'm reading a book that covers the pachuco zoot suit riots in LA in 1942 where young servicemen would beat the hell of anyone wearing a zoot suit and then disrobe them and burn their awesome suits....

Whoever these people are, they're way cooler than Ewoks. Mmmm, fermented green tea leaf salad! By the way, speaking of Myanmar, there's a Burmese Water Festival this Sunday on the Lower East Side. I think I'll check it out for the food.
  Fri. 7/10/09 1:56pm bryce:

no way, really?? do tell!!!
  Fri. 7/10/09 1:59pm Ike:

I'm gonna try to get there by 11:30 or so.
  Fri. 7/10/09 2:03pm Marshall Stacks:

Re Water Festival, I'm envious.

Don't carry or wear anything you don't want to get drenched!
  Fri. 7/10/09 2:11pm Ike:

Last year's festival:

There's also the annual Myanmar Baptist Church Fun Fair in Queens in August. They usually have excellent food.
  Fri. 7/10/09 2:23pm ?:

Wow, who knew that the Murung invented skipping records?
  Fri. 7/10/09 2:26pm bryce:

you should hear the 12"
  Fri. 7/10/09 2:41pm Chris:

Oh man I would love to record that festival, assuming I could do it without my recorder getting drenched.
  Fri. 7/10/09 2:48pm Marshall Stacks:

So much for Islam's staid image. From http://tinyurl.com/nwsnbs:

"A gandrung is a young woman who sings and dances with men at private parties in the east Javanese region called Banyuwangi. Typically, the party would accompany a family event such as a wedding or circumcision. The event involves drinking and flirtation -- even prostitution. It is bawdy and at times dangerous, but it is in fact a secularized version of an ancient purification ritual, and even in its modern form, the evening ends in a mood of spiritual cleansing...."
  Fri. 7/10/09 2:49pm bryce:

come in a bubble!
  Fri. 7/10/09 2:49pm Art Smass:

That's what SHE said.
  Fri. 7/10/09 2:51pm ?:

gotta say, Bryce, you kind of walked right in to that one . . .
  Fri. 7/10/09 2:51pm Chris:

Sadly it's a little too far away. Too bad sounds really cool.
  Fri. 7/10/09 2:52pm bryce:

hey nooowwwwwww
  Fri. 7/10/09 2:53pm Ike:

Oh, and big news flash to my fellow Newarkers: Watch out, Newark has robbers and muggers! Shit, who knew?
  Fri. 7/10/09 2:56pm bryce:

  Fri. 7/10/09 3:00pm Ike:

Nah, they just used me as a cash register; they even had the decency to throw back the rest of the wallet so I don't have to go to the fucking DMV. So really, I should celebrate.
  Fri. 7/10/09 3:04pm Ike:

Actually, only one mugging of me in almost nine years is a pretty decent track record for Newark, considering all the places I've walked.
