morning tony!

Fri. 6/26/09 9:03am From: fishmonkeystew the Blasphemer

Though I respect his skills, I am not a Michael Jackson fan. Thank you.

Fri. 6/26/09 9:03am From: Tony C

Morning, Annie -- and everyone else!

Fri. 6/26/09 9:04am From: annie

:) > FMS

Fri. 6/26/09 9:06am From: Bad Ronald

Dude had some mad pipes, pass the Jesus Juice...

Fri. 6/26/09 9:10am From: frenchee

don't forget Farrah.

loved that scarlet ribbons piece, Tony. Good to hear you!

Fri. 6/26/09 9:10am From: fishmonkeystew

And he sure could boogie on down. But still. Tony's show is a nice break from the media frenzy that has ensued.

Fri. 6/26/09 9:11am From: The High Council of Michael Believers

We sentence FMS the blasphemer to a one-week wearing of the single glove, or a month of wearing the catcher's shin-guards.

Fri. 6/26/09 9:11am From: Tony C

And don't forget Sky Saxon....

Fri. 6/26/09 9:12am From: Bad Ronald

Right!

Fri. 6/26/09 9:13am From: fishmonkeystew

Yeah, don't forget Farrah (that made me sad).

The High Council of Michael Believers-> How do you know that I'm not already wearing a single, sparkly glove, AND catcher's shin-guards?

Fri. 6/26/09 9:14am From: Bad Ronald

Hand firmly placed on groin area?

Fri. 6/26/09 9:15am From: annie

that's when he started to get creepy.

Fri. 6/26/09 9:15am From: doug from aquarius

A Sky Saxon tribute would be great.

Fri. 6/26/09 9:16am From: doug from dc

Not aquarius records, the age of aquarius.

Fri. 6/26/09 9:17am From: annie

i read about sky saxon in arthur. i'm not familiar with him.

Fri. 6/26/09 9:20am From: Jeffersonic

May we also pay tribute to Ed McMahon's resonant baritone chuckle-cluck?

Fri. 6/26/09 9:21am From: PMD

Morning all. Thanks in advance Tony for getting me to noon.

Fri. 6/26/09 9:27am From: HCMB

FMS - We know because we've been watching you and already had you marked for reorientation. Today you can understand that a very public "come to Jacko" moment is necessary.

Fri. 6/26/09 9:27am From: fishmonkeystew

I didn't even know that Sky died. Bummer.

Fri. 6/26/09 9:28am From: AJ

Sky died too

Fri. 6/26/09 9:34am From: Lou

I was affected by James Brown, Syd Barrett but not MJ...I'm with you Tony. Was it Sky Saxon who said "if a song takes longer than 20 minutes to write it's not worth writing"?

Fri. 6/26/09 9:40am From: Tony C

Which is not say people can't post about MJ if they so wish!

Fri. 6/26/09 9:40am From: north guinea hills

I always thought MJ did some good stuff w/ the Chicago Bulls.

Fri. 6/26/09 9:44am From: fishmonkeystew the Heretic

Actually, I expected the Mothership to swoop in to pick up MJ. I'm still waiting.

On another subject altogether, one of my co-workers just told me that the reason it's raining so much here in New England is the erupting volcanoes in Alaska. He kept calling it "Nuclear Winter". I think he's been mislead. I told him it was because of the death of MJ.

Fri. 6/26/09 9:53am From: dc pat

yeah let's hear it for Sky! We won't hear anything anywhere else.

Fri. 6/26/09 9:58am From: dc pat

it's funny--somebody (Carmichael?) mentioned reading J. Conrad's Sea Stories, so I looked into it. This piece is perfect background music for those stories.

Fri. 6/26/09 10:06am From: PMD

OH, I love this duck song!!!

Fri. 6/26/09 10:26am From: GP

Morning all, been out for a bit of vacation...The world sure changes fast when you are not watching the news.

Fri. 6/26/09 10:28am From: Cecile

Hello, all!
Hello, Tony!

Fri. 6/26/09 10:29am From: annie

GP- great you had some time off.. cecile, good morning!

Fri. 6/26/09 10:36am From: Cecile

I know four artist on this playlist. Try harder, Tony.

;)

Fri. 6/26/09 10:37am From: doug from dc

I've got that Michael Quatro album Paintings where he does Court of the Crimson King w/Ted Nugent guesting on guitar. It is def cheesy, but curiosity got the better of me.

Fri. 6/26/09 10:39am From: Cecile

I used to see those albums in bins for years.
He always had his shirt off on all album covers and would be in some kind of cheescake hippie mystic post

Fri. 6/26/09 10:39am From: ?

I really want to know whether Sir Paul is going to try and buy his songs back

Fri. 6/26/09 10:42am From: Michael Jackson

I bequeathed the Beatles' back catalog to Bubbles the Chimpanzee.

Fri. 6/26/09 10:43am From: The Walrus

..And who's going to stop me?

Fri. 6/26/09 10:44am From: Cecile

I always loved how the Mighty Boosh TV show had a shaman who looked like Michael Jackson, and his best mate was a talking gorilla.

Fri. 6/26/09 10:46am From: Devin

Guten morgen ya'll's.

Fri. 6/26/09 10:49am From: annie and everyone else..

morning devin!

Fri. 6/26/09 10:56am From: Carmichael

Good morning Tony and fellow MJ frenzy avoiders. Jesus, try living in the middle of it. Pretty soon I think they'll cut up chunks of pavement that he may have once trodden upon, for sale and/or adulation.

Whoever posted the link yesterday to The Seeds on The Mothers in Law, that was excellent, thanks. I miss Kaye Ballard and Eve Arden. Sort of.

And any show that begins a Klaus Flouride solo track will be great! Perhaps it will end with some East Bay Ray?

Fri. 6/26/09 11:02am From: holland oats

beeetlebaummmm

Fri. 6/26/09 11:03am From: Cecile

Eleanor Rigby is too good a song to mess up, but God Bless Doodles for trying.

Fri. 6/26/09 11:05am From: Steve Gugel

MORE DOODLES!!!! Please?

Fri. 6/26/09 11:06am From: annie

i will always love the "shaggy dog" brick joke.

Fri. 6/26/09 11:07am From: Devin

More Doodles indeed...

Fri. 6/26/09 11:08am From: GP

Ah..Dr, Demento...remember LATE nights trying to tape the show with my portable Radio Shack cassette recorder.

Fri. 6/26/09 11:09am From: annie

GP- a man after my own heart!!

Fri. 6/26/09 11:10am From: Cecile

A roommate of mine had hundreds of tapes of DD. We must have listened to all of them.

Fri. 6/26/09 11:12am From: GP

Annie, I know it sounds crazy but I probably still have those tapes around, most likely full of drop-outs and other noise by now, but it would be interesting to hear them again.

Fri. 6/26/09 11:14am From: Carmichael

I also taped DD, and defintely have a shoebox full of cassettes. I just spilled them all out the other day while searching for something else just as strange.

Fri. 6/26/09 11:14am From: annie

GP- the passage of time is a funny thing. i have boxes and boxes of cassettes dating from 30 years ago. SOMEDAY!! i'm gonna put a stereo system together that tapes all that on to cd. hah.

Fri. 6/26/09 11:16am From: Carmichael

Hey! Someone else who's heard of the Remo Four! The do a great version of "Jump".

Fri. 6/26/09 11:19am From: annie

man, i can smell that vinyl from here.. those crackles!!

Fri. 6/26/09 11:20am From: GP

Carmichael, your storage system sounds like mine!
I like the line and can totally relate:
"searching for something else just as strange"

Fri. 6/26/09 11:21am From: ?

Tony's shows usually seem to be about 50% patina. In a good way.

Fri. 6/26/09 11:22am From: holland oats

tony is my favorite dj. there i said it.

Fri. 6/26/09 11:23am From: annie

tony: .. this is wonderful... thanks..

Fri. 6/26/09 11:24am From: Cecile

it is, annie. It always transports me back to the mid-70s - a kind of pretty, sad greyness.

Fri. 6/26/09 11:27am From: annie

cecile, there were sooo many great spoken word pieces that just wrenched my heart sometimes. i love my vinyl collection of spoken word. precious possessions..

Fri. 6/26/09 11:29am From: Carmichael

Annie, I'm hoping you're not counting Rod McKuen in there .... :-)

Fri. 6/26/09 11:30am From: annie

carm, i'm giggling in your general direction.. oh wait it's turned in to a guffaw!!

Fri. 6/26/09 11:34am From: annie

anyone remember "the fourth tower of inverness"?

Fri. 6/26/09 11:42am From: doug from dc

annie, it's still available from www.zbs.org

Fri. 6/26/09 11:43am From: annie

word up doug... great serial!!

Fri. 6/26/09 11:44am From: Devin

Is that a young Jethro Tull on this Vesuvious track? (jk)

Fri. 6/26/09 11:47am From: annie

tony, this morning sped by.. your shows leave me speechless with emotion, sometimes. thanks!!

Fri. 6/26/09 11:50am From: matt

seconding that. Tony, are you doing radio on the west coast?

Fri. 6/26/09 11:51am From: north guinea hills

been loving the late 70's early 80's folky songwriting..., it's one of the few areas i adore that i need to mine a little further....

Fri. 6/26/09 11:52am From: Carmichael

Great show Tony. Hope to see you out here sometime soon.

Fri. 6/26/09 11:53am From: annie

NGH- if you can find the time, spend it listening to what came out of the era. a literal wealth of story and spiritual passion.

Fri. 6/26/09 11:54am From: Tony C

Hey everybody.... Sorry to be absent from the playlist ... lots of distractions today. Anyway, thanks for the nice words. I do hope to do radio on the West Coast, but have nothing lined up yet...

Will be filling for Irene on 7/6...

Fri. 6/26/09 11:55am From: annie

my birthday!!!!!

Fri. 6/26/09 11:57am From: north guinea hills

annie, i always have time to research/listen to music. the challenge is to engage myself w/ activities that are not music related.

oh, and happy dappy bday!

Fri. 6/26/09 11:58am From: annie
