Listener comments!

  9:01am
annie:

morning tony!
  9:03am
fishmonkeystew the Blasphemer:

Though I respect his skills, I am not a Michael Jackson fan. Thank you.
  9:03am
Tony C:

Morning, Annie -- and everyone else!
  9:04am
annie:

:) > FMS
  9:06am
Bad Ronald:

Dude had some mad pipes, pass the Jesus Juice...
  9:10am
frenchee:

don't forget Farrah.

loved that scarlet ribbons piece, Tony. Good to hear you!
  9:10am
fishmonkeystew:

And he sure could boogie on down. But still. Tony's show is a nice break from the media frenzy that has ensued.
  9:11am
The High Council of Michael Believers:

We sentence FMS the blasphemer to a one-week wearing of the single glove, or a month of wearing the catcher's shin-guards.
  9:11am
Tony C:

And don't forget Sky Saxon....
  9:12am
Bad Ronald:

Right!
  9:13am
fishmonkeystew:

Yeah, don't forget Farrah (that made me sad).

The High Council of Michael Believers-> How do you know that I'm not already wearing a single, sparkly glove, AND catcher's shin-guards?
  9:14am
Bad Ronald:

Hand firmly placed on groin area?
  9:15am
annie:

that's when he started to get creepy.
  9:15am
doug from aquarius:

A Sky Saxon tribute would be great.
  9:16am
doug from dc:

Not aquarius records, the age of aquarius.
  9:17am
annie:

i read about sky saxon in arthur. i'm not familiar with him.
  9:18am
annie:

  9:20am
Jeffersonic:

May we also pay tribute to Ed McMahon's resonant baritone chuckle-cluck?
  9:21am
PMD:

Morning all. Thanks in advance Tony for getting me to noon.
  9:27am
HCMB:

FMS - We know because we've been watching you and already had you marked for reorientation. Today you can understand that a very public "come to Jacko" moment is necessary.
  9:27am
fishmonkeystew:

I didn't even know that Sky died. Bummer.
  9:28am
AJ:

Sky died too
  9:34am
Lou:

I was affected by James Brown, Syd Barrett but not MJ...I'm with you Tony. Was it Sky Saxon who said "if a song takes longer than 20 minutes to write it's not worth writing"?
  9:40am
Tony C:

Which is not say people can't post about MJ if they so wish!
  9:40am
north guinea hills:

I always thought MJ did some good stuff w/ the Chicago Bulls.
  9:44am
fishmonkeystew the Heretic:

Actually, I expected the Mothership to swoop in to pick up MJ. I'm still waiting.

On another subject altogether, one of my co-workers just told me that the reason it's raining so much here in New England is the erupting volcanoes in Alaska. He kept calling it "Nuclear Winter". I think he's been mislead. I told him it was because of the death of MJ.
  9:53am
dc pat:

yeah let's hear it for Sky! We won't hear anything anywhere else.
  9:58am
dc pat:

it's funny--somebody (Carmichael?) mentioned reading J. Conrad's Sea Stories, so I looked into it. This piece is perfect background music for those stories.
  10:06am
PMD:

OH, I love this duck song!!!
  10:26am
GP:

Morning all, been out for a bit of vacation...The world sure changes fast when you are not watching the news.
  10:28am
Cecile:

Hello, all!
Hello, Tony!
  10:29am
annie:

GP- great you had some time off.. cecile, good morning!
  10:36am
Cecile:

I know four artist on this playlist. Try harder, Tony.

;)
  10:37am
doug from dc:

I've got that Michael Quatro album Paintings where he does Court of the Crimson King w/Ted Nugent guesting on guitar. It is def cheesy, but curiosity got the better of me.
  10:39am
Cecile:

I used to see those albums in bins for years.
He always had his shirt off on all album covers and would be in some kind of cheescake hippie mystic post
  10:39am
?:

I really want to know whether Sir Paul is going to try and buy his songs back
  10:42am
Michael Jackson:

I bequeathed the Beatles' back catalog to Bubbles the Chimpanzee.
  10:43am
The Walrus:

..And who's going to stop me?
  10:44am
Cecile:

I always loved how the Mighty Boosh TV show had a shaman who looked like Michael Jackson, and his best mate was a talking gorilla.
  10:46am
Devin:

Guten morgen ya'll's.
  10:49am
annie and everyone else..:

morning devin!
  10:56am
Carmichael:

Good morning Tony and fellow MJ frenzy avoiders. Jesus, try living in the middle of it. Pretty soon I think they'll cut up chunks of pavement that he may have once trodden upon, for sale and/or adulation.

Whoever posted the link yesterday to The Seeds on The Mothers in Law, that was excellent, thanks. I miss Kaye Ballard and Eve Arden. Sort of.

And any show that begins a Klaus Flouride solo track will be great! Perhaps it will end with some East Bay Ray?
  11:02am
holland oats:

beeetlebaummmm
  11:03am
Cecile:

Eleanor Rigby is too good a song to mess up, but God Bless Doodles for trying.
  11:05am
Steve Gugel:

MORE DOODLES!!!! Please?
  11:06am
annie:

i will always love the "shaggy dog" brick joke.
  11:07am
Devin:

More Doodles indeed...
  11:08am
GP:

Ah..Dr, Demento...remember LATE nights trying to tape the show with my portable Radio Shack cassette recorder.
  11:09am
annie:

GP- a man after my own heart!!
  11:10am
Cecile:

A roommate of mine had hundreds of tapes of DD. We must have listened to all of them.
  11:12am
GP:

Annie, I know it sounds crazy but I probably still have those tapes around, most likely full of drop-outs and other noise by now, but it would be interesting to hear them again.
  11:14am
Carmichael:

I also taped DD, and defintely have a shoebox full of cassettes. I just spilled them all out the other day while searching for something else just as strange.
  11:14am
annie:

GP- the passage of time is a funny thing. i have boxes and boxes of cassettes dating from 30 years ago. SOMEDAY!! i'm gonna put a stereo system together that tapes all that on to cd. hah.
  11:16am
Carmichael:

Hey! Someone else who's heard of the Remo Four! The do a great version of "Jump".
  11:19am
annie:

man, i can smell that vinyl from here.. those crackles!!
  11:20am
GP:

Carmichael, your storage system sounds like mine!
I like the line and can totally relate:
"searching for something else just as strange"
  11:21am
?:

Tony's shows usually seem to be about 50% patina. In a good way.
  11:22am
holland oats:

tony is my favorite dj. there i said it.
  11:23am
annie:

tony: .. this is wonderful... thanks..
  11:24am
Cecile:

it is, annie. It always transports me back to the mid-70s - a kind of pretty, sad greyness.
  11:27am
annie:

cecile, there were sooo many great spoken word pieces that just wrenched my heart sometimes. i love my vinyl collection of spoken word. precious possessions..
  11:29am
Carmichael:

Annie, I'm hoping you're not counting Rod McKuen in there .... :-)
  11:30am
annie:

carm, i'm giggling in your general direction.. oh wait it's turned in to a guffaw!!
  11:34am
annie:

anyone remember "the fourth tower of inverness"?
  11:42am
doug from dc:

annie, it's still available from www.zbs.org
  11:43am
annie:

word up doug... great serial!!
  11:44am
Devin:

Is that a young Jethro Tull on this Vesuvious track? (jk)
  11:47am
annie:

tony, this morning sped by.. your shows leave me speechless with emotion, sometimes. thanks!!
  11:50am
matt:

seconding that. Tony, are you doing radio on the west coast?
  11:51am
north guinea hills:

been loving the late 70's early 80's folky songwriting..., it's one of the few areas i adore that i need to mine a little further....
  11:52am
Carmichael:

Great show Tony. Hope to see you out here sometime soon.
  11:53am
annie:

NGH- if you can find the time, spend it listening to what came out of the era. a literal wealth of story and spiritual passion.
  11:54am
Tony C:

Hey everybody.... Sorry to be absent from the playlist ... lots of distractions today. Anyway, thanks for the nice words. I do hope to do radio on the West Coast, but have nothing lined up yet...

Will be filling for Irene on 7/6...
  11:55am
annie:

  11:57am
north guinea hills:

  11:58am
annie:
