Listener comments!

  3:01pm
Cecile:

Irwin, are you and Maria going to sing together on transitions now?
  3:03pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

where's Lee??
  3:04pm
dc pat:

Carm, you watching? 1-0, US!
  3:04pm
Lizardner Dave:

Lester Moran is Amanda's grandpappy. That's probably not true, but I like to start rumors.
  3:06pm
Ike:

Marshall, if you're still here, let me know how the testing of the Burmese tea leaves goes. And, wow, there are Burmese neighborhoods in Chiang Mai? I missed those. Anything interesting there?
  3:07pm
Cecile:

what is in a Burmese tea leaf salad? Besides the obvious
  3:08pm
Amanda:

{screeching pitchy scales and arpeggios, backstage}
  3:09pm
Jim:

I always chuckle when Roadhog refers to Chet Atkins as "Check."
  3:10pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

In 1977, someone brought a tape of this Burford to music class in high school. I haven't heard this since then. Thanks for the memories.
  3:10pm
road manager:

(looking at clipboard) and double check, boy.
  3:14pm
Ike:

Cecile:

I'm not sure how long the tea leaves are pickled, but they have a good kick to them. Nice and caffeinated.
  3:16pm
Marshall Stacks:

Ike, will let you know about the testing.

The most interesting thing in the Burmese quarter of C.M. was a fairly ornate temple. Mostly residential; just people going about their business.
  3:16pm
Cecile:

wow, that sounds very interesting!
  3:20pm
Parq:

Bard and Amanda raising their voices together. Mmmm, yeah.
  3:38pm
Ike:

Thanks Marshall. I ate some great, great food in C.M. but I also got a bit of food poisoning, possibly from sausage. Also, that city really needs some public transportation, but maybe I just have an irrational dislike of cabs.

Irwin, I assume Frank Gossner must be Franc O.?
  3:43pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

here it comes...
  3:43pm
Cecile:

this is SO demented
  3:49pm
AnAnonymousParty:

Amanda is kind of like the summer afternoon thunderstorms we get here in the midwest every other day: Comes outta nowhere, lots of noise and bluster, kinda scary yet kinda refreshing in that almost but didn't get your roof torn off sort of way and after it's all over you have to clean up your yard and get your patio umbrella out of the neighbor's pool.
  3:50pm
Ganno:

Haven't heard this Traffic in a l o n g while, so it's pleasant, eh?
  3:51pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

I've always got room for this kind of Traffic
  3:52pm
John:

I love the "Album" listing for Amanda--Rarities! As opposed to her mainstream, readily available stuff!
  3:52pm
bikewobble:

uh oh did i hear an F bomb
  3:53pm
Cecile:

@John, yeah the stuff you find at Target.
  3:54pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

sometimes I forget this station is NOT internet-only!
  3:54pm
John:

Ha! I know Wal-Mart refuses to carry ANY Amanda.
  3:55pm
bikewobble:

irwin, you caught the second one but missed "fuckloads." i'm going to taddle on you to the feds!
  3:55pm
Cecile:

wow. Lily is pretty spot on with her snarking there
  3:56pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

is fuckloads a bad word now?
  3:57pm
Ike:

That one didn't count. It was garbled... and in British. (Sexy but not always intelligible!)
  3:58pm
John:

Relax, Irwin. I think she said "truckloads", but her accent has everyone a little confused.
  4:03pm
Cecile:

But are they good, Irwin?
  4:04pm
doug from dc:

Forkloads of monkey. It's the British accent that threw ya. She's actually singing about Burmese food.
  4:04pm
PMD:

Ah, Amanda...
  4:04pm
Irwin:

I thought she said "fat clumps" of diamonds. But that Brit twang does render certain phrases unintelligible.
  4:05pm
Andrew:

I really really want to get the Amanda albums. How do I do it??
  4:07pm
Jess:

Best Amanda ever!
  4:07pm
Dave B:

Amand-ahhh...
  4:10pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

"Mind if we Make Love to You"? what an album title.
  4:12pm
Andrew:

White Town?!?! My pleasure centers are firing like bonkers over here. God blaze you, sir----
  4:14pm
Cecile:

another good snarky song I never heard before
  4:16pm
popo:

whitetown make me feel like i am gay in the rain in paris
  4:19pm
Cecile:

I didn't listen to much pop music in the 90s. I am happy that Irwin is filling in the gaps in my knowledge.
  4:21pm
John:

Caetano. Oh yeah. This is beautiful. It makes ME feel gay in the rain in Paris.
I have no idea what that means.
  4:22pm
John:

Thank you! Sometimes a little Amanda goes a long way.
  4:22pm
jw:

Went to Italy in the mid-90s and that White Town song was playing on every bus radio, hotel lounge and disco floor.
  4:25pm
Lizardner Dave:

For you Jandek fans out there, I just got these Irish tour dates on Facebook (yeah, I'm registered as a fan of Jandek).

19 Jul 2009 20:00
Olderfleet Bar Larne, Northern Ireland
20 Jul 2009 20:00
Black Boat Bangor, Northern Ireland
21 Jul 2009 20:00
Black Box Belfast, Northern Ireland
22 Jul 2009 20:00
Sandinos London/Derry, Northern Ireland
  4:26pm
Cecile:

Irwin, the A** Ponies are a very good band.
  4:26pm
Andrew:

A favorite quote from the dude from White Town: "I formed White Town in 1989 after seeing a brill Pixies gig in late ‘88. My reasoning was that Black Francis was a porker and could get away with playing noisy pop music so maybe I could as well?"
  4:28pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

last weekend I was watching about 8 squirrels running around my yard, and I was thinking "if these were rats I'd be freaking out right now".
  4:28pm
Cecile:

Irwin, have you seen UP?
There's a great squirrel joke in there.

Cats eat squirrels.
  4:29pm
John McCabe in LA:

dude the street of los angeles are full of Squirrels road kill it's sick
  4:29pm
Jennique:

Superchunk is not something I want to listen to either.

Squirrels are human mutations of what happens when you sniff too much crank and get pregnant.
  4:29pm
dragonflyshards:

squirrels were invented before television...(and i know people who eat them.)...(and,i hope you've listened to the ass ponies by now.)
  4:30pm
Cecile:

Squirrels poop out seeds so some plants can go.

Superchunk is a pretty good band too.
  4:30pm
Cecile:

grow, I mean
  4:31pm
Jack:

The squirrels eat the birdseed I put out for the birds. Their only natural enemy around here (orange co. ny) is the coyote. The other day, a car driving in front of me hit a squirrel, it was still moving, so I swerved to "put it out of it's misery". Did I do the right thing?
  4:33pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

rest assured, Jack, you have done well. Now go clean your tire treads.
  4:34pm
Capital Gains:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23CejJV6WFg
  4:34pm
Lizardner Dave:

We feed the rats to the cats and the cats to the rats and we get the skins for free.
  4:34pm
jan:

I had a meeting and only returned to the broadcast around 4:00. the show since then has been great. what did I miss?
  4:35pm
Cecile:

I have a good butcher.
I don't think we are talking about the same thing, though.
  4:36pm
sqirrelghost:

...{thinking}...well,i'm not in misery.
  4:37pm
squirrelghost:

damn,i spelled my name wrong. i dont type much.
  4:40pm
John:

Jan, you missed Amanda, the gym, squirrel talk, Lily, Caetano, White Town, Paris in the rain...
  4:41pm
squirrelshards:

LIZARDner Dave, who was that?.(i have it on tape somewhere...)husker du?..
  4:44pm
John:

Irwin, do you have any Squirrel Bait? They were alright. They were on that great Homestead comp in the late 80s, The Wailing Ultimate.
  4:44pm
Squirrel Representative:

i believe you will find this song very informative: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3EAaK4c7JE
  4:50pm
Lizardner Dave:

It was Husker Du who did the song but the original story was a newspaper hoax: http://www.trivia-library.com/c/associated-press-cat-and-rat-ranch-hoax.htm
  4:51pm
Squirrel Bates:

my son,Norman, took over my life after i died.
  4:52pm
Master Bates:

my hands are sticky
  4:54pm
squirrelflyshards:

(ewe)...Thank you,L Dave
  4:57pm
Squirrel Haggard:

I'm proud to be a rodent of the moment.
  5:00pm
dragonfryshards:

Is his name Larry?...Irwin-I'm still laughing because you played Amanda.thank you.
  5:03pm
Seamus:

Damn! I missed Amanda both times! I hope there's room for one more Amanda song.
  5:05pm
Peanut Gallery:

Yikes, I tune in to hear Irwin taking the first step, acknowledging that he has an Amanda problem, and then I look back through the comments to see squirrels everywhere. When did this whole shebang go seedy, twitchy, infested?! (and I have an upper window that gives me the drop on those birdtheed-thievin' squirrels -- they pay, oh how they pay). NOISES!
  5:08pm
friedsquirrelshards:

(he's mad.he's mad.you know it.)YAAAAHHHOOOOOOO!!
  5:09pm
gbrust:

The best thing for keeping squirrels out of the bird seed is to mix some cayanne pepper into the seed. It doesn't affect the birds, but the first time you see a squirrel eat spicy birdseed…

Thanks for this great set, Irwin!
  5:11pm
completely fetal:

anyone else having trouble keeping it together at work while listening to this latest amanda track?
  5:11pm
Take my card:

Been injured or annoyed by squirrels? The firm of Seedy, Twitchy & Infested will fight for YOU!
  5:22pm
flyingsquirrelshards:

'used to work in retail and play strange music and laugh so much at peoples' reaction to it,i'd have to go outside and breathe.'wish i had Amanda then.
  5:22pm
Rocky:

C,mon Bullwinkle, we're outta here.
  5:26pm
AnAnonymousParty:

'Floaty' reminds me of 'The Blue' from David Gilmour's latest, only (even more) girlier.
  5:26pm
ginger tim:

I used to like that band For Squirrels.
  5:27pm
dried squirrel shards:

Rocky, dont worry.we'll get used to the hot and spicy sunflower seeds.
  5:30pm
trisha:

hi where can i get amanda!!? ammmmmazing amanda!
  5:31pm
doug from dc:

I was annoyed by chipmonks. They dug up all of my tulip bulbs. They took a bite from each, figured "this nut's gone bad" and dug up another.
  5:34pm
Laura L:

THANK YOU! My favorite rant!
  5:35pm
Irwin:

That's because it's your professional milieu!
  5:38pm
Laura L:

It will be a nice lead in to you know who!
  5:44pm
Irwin:

Anyone want any more Amanda today? Last call!
  5:46pm
dragonsquirrelshards:

i've seen chipmonks in my garden,but,weird-the only damage i find is 1(out of 5)columbines is bitten down...(and,maybe an orech plant...but i think that's the mice.)'havn't touched my bulbs.(?)..so-in the future, doug from dc,if you must, you could put chunks of small gauge chicken wire,or something else they wouldnt like to walk on around the tulips,on the ground.--andYES,Irwin,before i go,i'd Love some!
  5:51pm
Laura L:

Yeah, where's the Amanda to close the show?
  5:52pm
It's official...:

You have now entered old fogie-dom.
  5:53pm
