You mean as in DDR? which is the German acronym for "German Democratic Republic" = what East Germany called itself till Germany was reunited close to 20 years ago... That's one reason Kreuzberg is artsy -- it was a hard-to-get-to part of West Berlin when the wall was up, and got kind of run down and therefore cheap for urban homesteader types. I lived for a few weeks in an old east German apartment on Adalbertstrasse in 2004, just past the ditch where the wall had run... Probably the biker bar, turkish doner kebab place, and internet cafe are all still there, LOL... Nice show so far... | |
