Hey Rex - Terrific show!
I've never heard that "I Wonder" record before and I have to tell you - it absolutely stopped me in my tracks. What a stunning sound in that voice!
Is is available anywhere? re-issue? Even a CD {shudders}...

Mr. Broven, Can you comment on the record makers interaction with each other regarding artists, garnering airplay, etc. Also please comment on Mr. Ertegun's remarks (papraphrasing) that "everyone was a crook but me." Was this a common attitude or was there a friendlier regional acknowlegement?

Can you address the preconception that record labels of this time were taking advantage of the talents of young artists, primarily African Americans, without giving them their due financial compensation?

Did'nt Clapton teach Elmore how to play?..think i heard that.

Great interview Rex, looking forward to reading the book. Please discuss with John who actually owns this music now considering expiring copyrights, defunct labels, dead artists, that sort of thing. With the freedom of the Internets, can we finally get all the out-of-print material out to the world legitimately? Soon? BTW--Today I finally figured out how to stream FMU live on my Blackberry. Sometimes the digital age ain't so bad. God save the Queen and the Washington Nationals.

Search WFMU Rhubarb Cake with Douglas - November 5, 2003 for a nice set of Harlem Hit Parade songs. Another fantastic resource for students and teachers.

Rex:
Please note: Bell House, not Bell Tower. We don't want people lost in the wilds of Brooklyn!
