X. D. Wei is an accomplished performer of Chinese traditional classical music. She sings and plays erhu (two-string fiddle) and various other stringed instruments. Since moving from Beijing to Detroit she's also taken up rock and roll, blending Chinese instrumentation and vocals with guitar, bass and drums.
She'll be bringing her rock combo Madame XD from the Motor City to WFMU for a live session as part of its first visit to the NY metro area. (Madame XD also will be going down the Jersey
shore to play the Brighton Bar in Long Branch NJ, Sunday May 24.)
