Pistolera is a Mexican / American musical powder keg. Bandleader Sandra Velasquez grew up in San Diego as a Mexican-American kid playing rock and roll. But when she came to New York, far from the border, she missed something about her roots and decided to merge her love of rock with Mexican rancheras and cumbias.
Sandra's lyrics (as on the band's latest CD, "En Este Camino") often deal with issues related to the Mexican American experience and in support of immigrants' rights and womens' rights. And she doesn't pull her punches.
Pistolera agit-rocks the Brooklyn Museum on Saturday evening May 2 (sets a little after 5pm and later) - and we get a preview with a live session.

Great show, as always. This song from Botswana is fantastic. Wasn't keen on the one before it though, it was a bit too hip-hop for me!
