Tue. 3/31/09 12:05pm From: Pearlÿ Sweets

I like to stomp around to Joe's show the most.

Tue. 3/31/09 12:09pm From: Bäd R☺nald

Joe's a killer!

Tue. 3/31/09 12:11pm From: Pearlÿ Sweets

Joe, you think the mummies might make it on the show this week now that Disney has stopped suppressing music from the ears of its followers?

Tue. 3/31/09 12:11pm From: Mudcat

I vaguely remember a "Mad About You" episode in which there was a pediatrician named Kekich, no doubt inspired by the Yankees' wife-swapping scandal.

Tue. 3/31/09 12:14pm From: Parq

"Baseball Altamont" - I just gotta stop and listen to any song with a title like that.

Tue. 3/31/09 12:16pm From: Ward Fowler

ball game?

Tue. 3/31/09 12:18pm From: Cecile

I'd suggest Barbara Manning's Dock Ellis, but you would have to use the dump button near the end.

Hey, not now, but could you slide on some Jonny Polonsky latter in the show? thanks

Tue. 3/31/09 12:20pm From: Mudcat

Dock Ellis's no-hitter on acid must be the all-time greatest sports feat.

You can also play the SF Seals' Denny McLain.

Tue. 3/31/09 12:21pm From: Cecile

oh, Kelly Stoltz!
And I saw a lot of games at Tiger Stadium that year...aha.

Tue. 3/31/09 12:21pm From: Joe B

Thanks for SF Seals suggestion - I thought of Denny Mclain earlier but the 7" is nowhere to be found here. Maybe Nick Cage stole it.

Tue. 3/31/09 12:21pm From: G

Maybe Kelley will namecheck Ernie Harwell...

Tue. 3/31/09 12:22pm From: AnAnonymousParty

Falstaff! Now all we need are some Stag and/or 905 beer ads.

Tue. 3/31/09 12:22pm From: still b/p

Oh, yeah, Cage nicked it.

Tue. 3/31/09 12:24pm From: Sean Daily

Dock Ellis' No No, by Chuck Brodsky, please...

Tue. 3/31/09 12:25pm From: Sean Daily

Watta surprise. The Yanks' fight song is as insufferable as their fans.

Tue. 3/31/09 12:27pm From: Lee

let's go go white sox

Tue. 3/31/09 12:27pm From: Pearlÿ Sweets

This mets song, I am pretty sure, was reworked to be the theme song for the Muddy Mudskipper Show from Ren & Stimpy.

Tue. 3/31/09 12:27pm From: Lou

Play the Carl Yastrzemski song from the impossible dream LP

I heartily echo Sean Daily's comment

Tue. 3/31/09 12:27pm From: Cecile

we need more team songs with banjo. Or tuba

Tue. 3/31/09 12:28pm From: Pearlÿ Sweets

Mets > Yankees A very simple math equation!

Tue. 3/31/09 12:29pm From: G

But what do you *really* think of his performance?

Tue. 3/31/09 12:29pm From: Lizardner Dave

Is there an FCC-friendly version of Lee Elia's tirade from the early '80s?

Go Yanks!

Tue. 3/31/09 12:30pm From: mike

there's a really great rare phillies fight song for you: http://www.baseballrecordings.com/fighting%20phils.mp3

Tue. 3/31/09 12:30pm From: Parq

Haven't heard Luna's "Heart" in decades. And I'm staying out of this religious dispute.

Tue. 3/31/09 12:33pm From: still b/p

"...just bounced in from the bozo league.."

Tue. 3/31/09 12:33pm From: Carmichael

This is the morning from hell. Rock me, Joe.

Tue. 3/31/09 12:34pm From: AnAnonymousParty

I remember seeing Auggie Busch Sr. riding around waving at the crowd on the beer wagon pulled by the Clydesdales with the Budweiser theme booming over the stadium with Stan Khan, probably, at the organ during the 7th inning stretch at Busch Stadium as a kid. Now all you get is a commercial on the Jumbotron.

Tue. 3/31/09 12:35pm From: annie

all i have to say is i remember when baseball was action packed and i sat on the edge of my seating listening to the games on the radio.. today? weelll.... meh...but i still love the orioles.

Tue. 3/31/09 12:36pm From: Parq

Modern baseball-going, like modern movie-going, is now merely an exercise in gathering people to expose them to commercial messages. Those of you gearing up to spend time at one of NYC's shiny new Corporate Sponsor Stadiums can have it.

Tue. 3/31/09 12:37pm From: Carmichael

I was an Oakland A's fan waaaaaay back in the day, until the strike season. Now they can all go suck one.

Tue. 3/31/09 12:37pm From: annie

parq, i'm on that same bench..

Tue. 3/31/09 12:38pm From: Cecile

the 70s As were nuts.
I loved 'em as a kid.

Tue. 3/31/09 12:41pm From: PMD

annie's on a parq bench

Tue. 3/31/09 12:42pm From: annie

not at all like the group "w" bench....

Tue. 3/31/09 12:42pm From: Lizardner Dave

@Parq - sports arenas were ALWAYS filled with commercial messages. Take a look at some old-timey photos from the 50s if you don't believe me. Hell, arguably the most famous feature of Ebbets Field was an ad (Hit sign, win suit). Old and quaint or not, ads are ads.

Tue. 3/31/09 12:42pm From: annie

PMD- i sent you an email...

Tue. 3/31/09 12:43pm From: PMD

I know. Ihave to ask you more questions... Thank you!

Tue. 3/31/09 12:43pm From: annie

cool, i'm around today....did that help?

Tue. 3/31/09 12:44pm From: PMD

Cecile - what has owning Ken brought you?

Tue. 3/31/09 12:45pm From: Carmichael

Annie, you're showing your age with that "Group W" reference ....

Tue. 3/31/09 12:45pm From: Cecile

He usually plays a FOTC song for me, and he says hi to me on the comment boards, and announces his show as "The Cecile Cloutier Radio Program" or something like that.

Tue. 3/31/09 12:48pm From: Ponytail

We love Stingy D!!

Tue. 3/31/09 12:49pm From: annie

charmichael, i'm proud to admit it.. i'm nearing 60- 4 more years!! wow.. seems weird..my mind is still in the gutter of 26 or so.

Tue. 3/31/09 12:50pm From: Carmichael

I'm just ribbin' ya. I'm over 50 myself, so I recognized the reference immediately. Which, of course, implicates me too.

Tue. 3/31/09 12:51pm From: stingy d

totally gonna make out.

Tue. 3/31/09 12:51pm From: PMD

I'm proud to say I didn't get the reference. Whew.
And this song by Gruesomania I thought was south park at first.

Tue. 3/31/09 12:53pm From: annie

i can take a ribbing...i knew you was ... ;) i am soo way happy that i have been willing to change with the times. it helped that i had a truely awesome kid, too

Tue. 3/31/09 12:53pm From: PMD

annie, I'll send some photos to show what I want to do. the plants you mention I don't even know about...

Tue. 3/31/09 12:55pm From: Officer Obie

It's good you didn't get upset about missin' the reference -- 'cuz, kid, we don't want any hangings.

Tue. 3/31/09 12:59pm From: annie

you were just makin sure..

Tue. 3/31/09 1:00pm From: Bäd R☺nald

Did you think I was gonna hang myself for litterin'?

Tue. 3/31/09 1:03pm From: Parq

That was horrible. If you guys want to end the war and stuff, you got to post loud.

PS. Oh, those bygone days when lefties wouldn't think twice about calling gays "faggots".

Tue. 3/31/09 1:04pm From: annie

did you see that film about (alex?) abel; the performance artist extraordinaire who announced he had found the lost 17 minutes? he held a press conference and everything. room full of reporters, and he turned on the tape... nada!! it turns out his secretary erased the tape.. what a hoot..

Tue. 3/31/09 1:06pm From: annie

the same fellow who insisted that women should not be allowed to breatfed due to the fact that it was exciting the mothers...

Tue. 3/31/09 1:08pm From: Mart

Hey Joe. Any chance of getting the Boston Spaceships to play on your show?

Tue. 3/31/09 1:10pm From: Cecile

Mart, did you hear those tracks and interview Tommy Keene did a few years back? (He's the guitar player in Boston Spaceships). That's a great show to check out in the archives

Tue. 3/31/09 1:16pm From: Mart

Cecile, thank you! I did not hear the Tommy Keene interview. Is it on the 3 Chord Monte archive? Tommy Keene is awesome. I saw the Spaceships the last time they were in New York.

Tue. 3/31/09 1:18pm From: Carmichael

OK, since I saw Anthony Bourdain in Mexico last night, I'm going to a taqueria for lunch. Lots and lots of tacos.

Tue. 3/31/09 1:21pm From: d¢ pät

Did somebody mention Robbie Keane?! Irish national soccer team is playing Italy tomorrow--here's my prediction: IRELAND WILL WIN.

Tue. 3/31/09 1:21pm From: Joe B

Mart,

No chance of Boston Spaceships. I asked when the first album was out.

Cecile thanks for the Tommy keene plug! It was Aug. 1 2006. He had to cancel because fo a soar throat but felt bad so he recorded 5 songs at his own studio for us and sent them, then he called on the phone. What a guy!

Tue. 3/31/09 1:22pm From: Carmichael

Robbo!!!!!!! I see a repeat of 1-0. Left-footed score, falling away ...

Tue. 3/31/09 1:24pm From: detroitdave

Hi Joe, afternoon all!

Tue. 3/31/09 1:26pm From: Cecile

It was such a great show, Joe.
It's why I have been a huge fan since '83.

Tue. 3/31/09 1:27pm From: d¢ pät

right on Carm.

Tue. 3/31/09 1:28pm From: Mart

I've only just begun to crack the archives and was wondering if Robert Pollard has ever played at FMU?

Tue. 3/31/09 1:30pm From: Joe B

GBV played on Gaylord's show in 98 or so, when one of the TVT albums was out. Doug Gillard has been on Pseu Braun's show a few times, really cool shows. GBV earlier ... dunno if they ever did anything in east Orange.

Tue. 3/31/09 1:31pm From: Mart

Thanks Joe!

Tue. 3/31/09 1:33pm From: Lou

I'm aware of a killer acoustic version of Dragons Awake from FMU live broadcast in '99...where's the rest of that show?

Tue. 3/31/09 1:40pm From: Cecile

No, Joe! Awesome!

Tue. 3/31/09 1:42pm From: EGOWARRIOR

neil innes is, quite simply, a genius.

Tue. 3/31/09 1:43pm From: Bäd R☺nald

Agreed!

Tue. 3/31/09 1:45pm From: Carmichael

Not only is he a genius, he's the Urban Spaceman.

Tue. 3/31/09 1:45pm From: Cecile

love that AC Newman record

Tue. 3/31/09 1:52pm From: Bäd R☺nald

as well as Ron Nasty.

Tue. 3/31/09 1:54pm From: Carmichael

And the personal friend of Apollo C. Vermouth.

Tue. 3/31/09 1:54pm From: megisi

damn ... missed a Hoodoo Gurus track ... guess I'll have to loosen some bucks and purchase now that my jones is on.

Tue. 3/31/09 1:54pm From: GP

This Shrubs is a SWEET party tune...feels like I am at the prom or something.

Tue. 3/31/09 1:57pm From: Robbie Roberston

Anyone else hear The Band influences in this Shrubs song?

Tue. 3/31/09 1:58pm From: Carmichael

Take a load off, Marley??

Tue. 3/31/09 1:58pm From: Joe B

Good one Carmichael.

Mr Robertson I think you mean the Bee Gees tune.

Tue. 3/31/09 1:59pm From: megisi

red velvet!!!

day-um

Tue. 3/31/09 1:59pm From: Laura

What the hell happened to the Bee Gees between Marley Purt Drive and Ah Ha Ha Ha Stayin' Alive?

Tue. 3/31/09 2:01pm From: Carmichael

The same thing that happened to Rod Stewart between Mandolin Wind and If You Think I'm Sexy.

Tue. 3/31/09 2:01pm From: Robbie Roberston

I stand corrected. In addition, I always thought Stayin' Alive sounded a whole lot like The Weight. I guess I should be flattered.

Tue. 3/31/09 2:03pm From: Cecile

Jive Talkin', Laura

Tue. 3/31/09 2:05pm From: Carmichael

Will Ferrell did a great commercial during his SNL days for a CD called "Sold Out Gold". He mentions both of the above artists, along with others who jumped on the cash bandwagon. Phil Collins comes to mind as well.

Tue. 3/31/09 2:07pm From: Pearlÿ Sweets

In the Bee Gees defense. Their disco albums are pretty solid as well. I mean the type of music changed, but the quality of music and lyrics stayed strong.

Tue. 3/31/09 2:07pm From: Laura

w/r/t Rod Stewart, a friend of mine draws a demarcation line between Rod Stewart the musician and Rod Stewart the celebrity--a point well taken. Phil Collins too, although in his case the "musician" part is debatable. And Eric Clapton. And lots of others, now that I think about it.

Tue. 3/31/09 2:08pm From: detroitdave

Joe, got any Orange Alabaster Mushrooms? The song Tree Pie fits the bill.

Tue. 3/31/09 2:15pm From: annie

disco killed the radio star

Tue. 3/31/09 2:17pm From: Pearlÿ Sweets

Disco is stronger than dirt.

Tue. 3/31/09 2:18pm From: Parq

Pearly, in order to give props to SNF and its ilk, you have to be one of those people for whom "good disco" is not an oxymoron. I can't list myself in that number.

Tue. 3/31/09 2:18pm From: Topkat

everything I've heard from that Cazumbi comp makes me pause and say "wow".

Tue. 3/31/09 2:19pm From: Ray Manzarek

Would you like to hear about Jim Morrison's yellow shirt? It's very different from his blue one. I can go into details.

Tue. 3/31/09 2:19pm From: Cecile

I love a lot of disco. But there was a lot of bad disco.

Tue. 3/31/09 2:20pm From: Parq

"Disco; Never Forget, Never Forgive."

Tue. 3/31/09 2:20pm From: Pearlÿ Sweets

It is true. Though rare. But my love for both funk and "mutant disco" has lead to a few "real" disco albums falling into my turntable for no ironic reasons. I mean 90% of SNF soundtrack is fucking steller at face value.

Tue. 3/31/09 2:22pm From: Cecile

I just have a hard time with the Bee Gees later period because I didn't like their disco harmonies at all. They felt grating. But ya know, I can always go for some Tavares every now and then...

And Sylvester is just great, disco or not

Tue. 3/31/09 2:23pm From: Carmichael

Pearly, I ... uhhhh ... you should .... hmmm.

Tue. 3/31/09 2:23pm From: Pearlÿ Sweets

Joe you are a wonderful human being. I don't care what the rest of these jokers say. To me, You're Aces.

Tue. 3/31/09 2:23pm From: Cecile

AWESOME JOE LMAO

Tue. 3/31/09 2:24pm From: Carmichael

Joe! You're payin' attention!!!

Tue. 3/31/09 2:24pm From: Ray Manzarek

Had Morrison lived to see the rise of disco I imagine he could have been tempted by the pure sexuality of it all, but I am sure I would have been able to rein him in and help him see that the trade of sensuality wasn’t worth the loss of artistic merit. I’d like to think of myself as kind of like his musical conscious. Guiding him. You dig it?

Tue. 3/31/09 2:25pm From: annie

see this is why i cannot leave the living room... much too much entertainin' goin' on.. much too much...

Tue. 3/31/09 2:26pm From: Carmichael

Joe, I gotta send you the CD "The Sounds of Young Sacramento". Nothing but 3-chord 3-minute songs from the '60s. Obscure garage at its most obscure.

Tue. 3/31/09 2:26pm From: Cecile

get your leather pants yet, or are you still trying look like a jazz cat with an apartment across from Central Park?

Tue. 3/31/09 2:26pm From: lolcat

obscure garage iz obscure

Tue. 3/31/09 2:27pm From: Carmichael

And your shirt with a billowy quality?

Tue. 3/31/09 2:28pm From: Ray Manzarek

I want to see Jim Morrison dead. Show me the leather!

Tue. 3/31/09 2:29pm From: Laura

Have the Powerchords ever been seen in the same room at the same time as the (remaining, ex) Dickies?

Tue. 3/31/09 2:30pm From: Pearlÿ Sweets

Chuck Wagon started the Powerchords with Stiv Bators WAAAY back in 2001.

Tue. 3/31/09 2:30pm From: Carmichael

Did any Africans in the '60s have garages?

Tue. 3/31/09 2:30pm From: Topkat

I missed last weeks show...was it this chatty? ;)

Tue. 3/31/09 2:31pm From: Pearlÿ Sweets

Remember about six or so minutes ago when the mummies were on? That is going to be the best part of my day. I don't know if that is sad or not... but when the mummies are on I don't really care.

Tue. 3/31/09 2:31pm From: Cecile

probably carports, Carm

Tue. 3/31/09 2:31pm From: Carmichael

Pearly, that's not the same Chuck Wagon who played with the Wheels, is it?

Tue. 3/31/09 2:33pm From: Sean Daily

Muh muh MUMMIES!

Tue. 3/31/09 2:34pm From: Topkat

not quite this chatty. But pretty chatty.

Tue. 3/31/09 2:34pm From: d¢ pät

dang, muh-muh-missed the mummies.

Tue. 3/31/09 2:35pm From: Cecile

that was, me Cecile, I accidentally put your name in Topkat.
Cause I was addressing you and stuff.

Tue. 3/31/09 2:35pm From: Pearlÿ Sweets

Sure. He was also an original touring member of the Fabulous Stains and the Desperate Teenage Love Dolls. Then he later went on to hoo doo'd the hoo doo man.

Tue. 3/31/09 2:37pm From: Topkat

Cecile, s'all right!

Tue. 3/31/09 2:39pm From: Pearlÿ Sweets

This has got the swing. I dug up my old Deadly Snakes album the other day and had a rumble in my living room.

Tue. 3/31/09 2:40pm From: Pearlÿ Sweets

My pup-pup cut me on a knife edge 'cause I was getting too lippy with his stuffed bear.

Tue. 3/31/09 2:46pm From: Cecile

great bettye lavette song

Tue. 3/31/09 2:54pm From: d¢ pät

Big Sandy is a good live show--saw him a few years back. He and the band tour in a big bus from the 50's.

Tue. 3/31/09 2:57pm From: Cecile

I liked him when he was MCing for Los Straitjackets and the Pontani Sisters. He reminds me of Jackie Gleason - big but light on his feet.

Tue. 3/31/09 3:00pm From: Topkat
