The lazy calm at the week's start. A few live performances included, but mainly music with an ear tilted toward string-driven things.

Live performance by QQQ (Dan Trueman, violin/ Monica Mugan, guitar/ Beth Myers, viola/ Jason Treuting, percussion) |

They're not some sort of power-share stock but rather QQQ is a string-driven bluegrass-leaning folk ensemble with a classical twist. The quartet's label, New Amsterdam Records, describes the ensemble this way, "Cram together a waltz à la Bill Monroe with a Norwegian wedding march, mix in some 2 and 4 and add a bit of improvisation and a post-something classical style. Now you have an idea of one QQQ tune." QQQ just released a debut album, and came to WFMU to play live. |

Irene, you have an error on your playlist. The 'Tin Hat Trio' track is not 'Intractable,' but rather 'The Comet.' | |
