Every show starts with the ’70s! We’ll rediscover forgotten rockers, revisit unfairly maligned disco beats and replay power-pop favorites. Next: plenty of new releases, occasional live bands and more. Don’t let the nickname confuse you.

February 10, 2009: don't tell my cat I'm doing ANOTHER salute to the dog show (not to mention auditioning to be the announcer)!

I got so used to waiting for EFD Show-Time, since that behind-the-comments-board moment last Friday, I missed the first 4 minutes! (Also, I'm making banana bread, and was dancing around with hands coated in coconut-oll-and-bananaguts, with Felacompaniment. = good times)

hiya hotrod--whats up??

ok, now I'm just trying to imagine what Devo has to do with the dog show and hoping very much for a jpg depicting dogs dressed as Devo.

EFD, the job's yours next year!
Tue. 2/10/09 11:34pm
Joe:
You sound convincing but the "Saturday Night Fever" in the background throws the whole thing off. Got any dog-show music?
Tue. 2/10/09 11:40pm
Andrew in Midland Park:
Sussex Spaniel named Stump just won best in show, Scottish Terrier seemed to be one of crowd fav's
Tue. 2/10/09 11:41pm
Amanda:
I went to the dog show several times as a kid when dog writer Roger Caras (RIP) did the PA announcing. EFD, for sure, my second-fave. Yup, the Sussex! It's the same dog that won a few years ago.
Tue. 2/10/09 11:43pm
Steve Barton:
Evan, I missed what you were talking about...can you repeat it?
Tue. 2/10/09 11:45pm
john:
Wha's so cool to me is that little bit of golf style announcing added into the mix, like every dog in the show has a 30 foot putt for birdie to tie the match on 18.
Tue. 2/10/09 11:45pm
Andrew in Midland Park:
Amanda - you seem to enjoy the silly and clever ode to the dog show - do you have a dog, what kind? Thanks, Evan.
Tue. 2/10/09 11:46pm
efd:
har har, Bruce. Hi everyone, still catching my breath over here but appreciate the comments!
Tue. 2/10/09 11:49pm
Andrew in Midland Park:
it always caught me off guard the first time or two that guy would say "yes, she is a splendid little bitch." Then Joe Garagiola would try to chime in with a weak well intentioned remark.
Tue. 2/10/09 11:51pm
john:
Given that Garagiola's default position is always to tell a story about growing up with Yogi Berra, one can see how that might have been suboptimal at Westminster.
Tue. 2/10/09 11:53pm
Amanda:
John, totally! Actually I remember Caras used to get annoyed when people didn't cheer loud enough: "Ladies and gentlemen, this is not a hamster show." Which would not happen in golf. Andrew -- No, I don't own a dog... I work with dogs and taking care of 10 of them every day is enough.
Tue. 2/10/09 11:55pm
john:
Amanda, it certainly would not. Hamsters are lousy golfers. Short arms, I think. Wonder what my excuse is.
Tue. 2/10/09 11:56pm
Laurie:
I have tonight's Westminster on my DVR, but I watched it live yesterday. My cat Sid was very interested in the hound group. He stared from a distance for a few minutes, slowly moved forward, and then he put his front paws on the media stand (about a foot tall), and blocked a small portion of the TV screen for about 10 minutes. CUTE.
Tue. 2/10/09 11:58pm
efd:
double post FIXED! | |

Laurie:
Thank you! | |

Great show, good tunes, but it is time for bed here in Atlanta. Thanks and good night. Your listener, skb
Wed. 2/11/09 12:13am
efd:
thanks Steve! (even though you're probably in bed now) your dj, efd

Wed. 2/11/09 12:54am
Amanda:
Joe, thank goodness! I thought everyone had gone to sleep!
Wed. 2/11/09 12:58am
efd:
you and me both! Glad you got on the MC Yogi train, Joe. And do you remember what you're doing this Friday night??
Wed. 2/11/09 12:59am
Joe:
Can't sleep on the EFD show. Are you kidding me? Also, I have homework.
Wed. 2/11/09 1:02am
Joe:
Something... black. My black friend Holly? Kicking French people at Maxwells? Maybe you could jog my memory with some tunes....
Wed. 2/11/09 1:04am
Joe:
Oh, and you might've missed it at the top of the page, but I posted a link to some Fantasy projections for the upcoming year that might get you Sawks fans pretty pumped up.
Wed. 2/11/09 1:05am
john:
This new Bob record is fantastic. And Joe raises a great point--three days to pitchers and catchers...exhaling...
Wed. 2/11/09 1:06am
Amanda:
Oh fudge, did someone win tickets last week? Congrats. I almost called in tonight for the Duke Spirit. Bob Pollard, you are fab and I wish I were as prolific as you. I hope you're following these comments so you see this note.
Wed. 2/11/09 1:10am
efd:
ah! I saw the link but didn't have a chance to click through. I'll check that out tomorrow, thanks for posting. (And I knew you were on top of the Friday thing!) I guess that Hot Stove show isn't happening, but maybe I can piece together some kind of season preview show after the marathon...
Wed. 2/11/09 1:11am
Joe:
Evan, you should play some "Relaxation of the Asshole". I bet there's like 30 seconds of non-cursing hilarity on that cd, somewhere.
Wed. 2/11/09 1:12am
john:
That may not be 30 contiguous seconds, of course...
Wed. 2/11/09 1:23am
Joe:
yeaaaah. Cyclone 60 study break. Man, I wish the speakers in my car were as good as the ones on my radio. Really makes this song pop. And lets not even talk about my computer.
Wed. 2/11/09 1:30am
Amanda:
Best thing short of actual Motorhead with which to follow Motorhead With Me.
Wed. 2/11/09 1:32am
efd:
exactly! | |
Wed. 2/11/09 1:41am
Joe:
You failed to mention the nuclear explosion which is causing the wave that the buffalo (bison? muskox?) is surfing on. This TPOBPAT album is really blowing up, I really hope you can lock 'em down...
Wed. 2/11/09 1:45am
Michael From the Left Coast:
Wow that Pains of Being Pure at Heart was good! Who produced that?
Wed. 2/11/09 1:47am
efd:
Joe, I KNOW!! luckily I have an "in" via a personal connection, so I think it will work out. Didn't I say something about a mushroom cloud? Although I didn't make the connection that it was propelling the buffalo.
Wed. 2/11/09 1:48am
efd:
hi Michael! looks like they produced it themselves...? there are mixing and mastering credits, but no producer credit.
Wed. 2/11/09 1:55am
Joe:
Well, it's just my personal theory. Though the more I think about it, it must be a Buffalo because his leg is a buffalo -wing-. Ah... visual puns. Great show, as usual.

Dave McGurgan:
Listening to show while I sit on couch and work from home. Thanks for dog-themed show EFD.
