Listener comments!

  7:11pm
America is a big place:

Sounds goods, this Sunday evening. Sounds romantic, like a Lubitsch movie.
  7:12pm
Zach in Philly:

These are some seriously sweet sounds emanating from the radio right now. And I'm right in the middle of writing to family who back where cherry orchards are not an uncommon treat upon the landscape. Boy Howdy, Ray Charles! I used to listen to him most on the train to and from NYC. But it was my Grandma who turned me on to him, in her odd sort of way.
  7:19pm
Jess:

My great-grandma Elsie made me a tape when I was about three, singing all her old favorite songs, and she sang this song on it (I don't want to play in your yard). I've never heard anyone but her sing it, and I'm so happy to hear that old-lady voice or not, and even without accompaniment, she did a very accurate rendition. Thanks, Monica.
  7:38pm
Scott:

Monica, I can't believe you are playing the theme from In the Mood for Love! It's a brilliant, sensual song. Every time I hear it I think of Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung walking past each other in slow motion.
  7:38pm
riverroadny@juno.com:

Yah, I heard Leo Kottke in 1968 at The Bitter End. My first "night out" soooo long ago . . .
  7:46pm
gail:

I certainly remember Bonnie Kolack. She was the reining vocal queen when I lived in Chicago all during the 70's.

What was that strange street where Ratsos and all the other live music clubs was? Do you know of it?
  7:54pm
monica:

Greetings to America Is A Big Place, yes romance on the horizon. Zach from Philly~ always a pleasure to hear from you m'sweet, Jess, mon plasir - you can find that track pretty easily, Scott- it's such a great soundrtrack as you well know, Paul - you old hippy!! Gail - you go back like taxes, girl!! Was it Maxwell St. or Licoln ave??
  8:08pm
Jim Duffy:

Hi, enjoying the show. As for the tune that samples Hoagy Carmichael, the Carmichael song in question is "Moon Country."
  8:10pm
gail:

I do go waaaay back!. I believe the street was off Lincoln. At a strange angle. All sorts of people played that strip then: Steve Goodman, John Prine, lots of blues too.
  8:12pm
Mr. B. B. Bosco:

What is a "confirmed bachelor party"? Does this mean that everyone's wearing pink suits and rhinestones?

sugarwolf:

I went to a cookie party this weekend - ohhhh, beer and cheese do not agree with my belly.

I went the city today, and saw a nice creche in front of a Catholic Church
accompanied by a recording of Silent Night sung by Barbra Streisand. Which made me laugh.
  8:26pm
c44:

You have to give us more info on Chari Chari Strictly Porn Suck It and See Pussyfoot - we have to feature this!!!!!!!!!

Sugarwolf, what kind of beer & what kind of cheese? Typically, I quite enjoy the two.
  8:53pm
monica:

  8:54pm
Jeff M:

Oh, my -- that Grace Jones track makes me think of a time, and of other famed Grace Jones songs... which makes me think of "Warm Leatherette"... which makes me affirm that the version by The Normal remains the One True Version.
  1:08pm
Harold in Guatemala:

Oh my. Where have I been? Oh right, listening to Glen Jones archives. What a wonderful change.
Old Red Bank guy, listening since 1969, now a very appreciative expatriate.
  5:51pm
Harold in Guatemala:

Just to clarify, listening "to WFMU" since 1969. A dinosaur who remembers how the U got in there. Listening to Monica for only a day, and thoroughly enjoying the day even more.
