A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

  Thu. 11/13/08 9:30am hazmania:

Is there a lot of showering going on at the studio?
  Thu. 11/13/08 9:30am Joe:

Seems like a gross underutilization of your abilities.

Great show, btw! You're making me miss working Thursday mornings.

Well not really, that job was awful. But the tuneskies were great.
  Thu. 11/13/08 9:31am trouble:

yikes. no, the hand towels...
  Thu. 11/13/08 9:48am dale:

can't Ken get some communications students to intern and do that sort of thing?
  Thu. 11/13/08 9:49am Richard:

Lovin' the Brightblack Morning Light, you betcha!
  Thu. 11/13/08 9:51am trouble:

when the 90.1 transmitter was out due to icing I was going to volunteer to run over there with a hair dryer but didn't know if it would help much.
  Thu. 11/13/08 9:56am trouble:

the 3rd version of that anne briggs trad song that i know is by meg baird off her latest "waltz of the tennis player "i think is the title.
  Thu. 11/13/08 9:56am Joe:

Well... how else are you supposed to de-ice a transmitter?
  Thu. 11/13/08 9:58am dc pat:

Ken could just breath on it.
  Thu. 11/13/08 10:00am dale:

'the bridge' represents my descent intoo madness in some cartoonish world. I think there was a version of 'o winsbury on a jeffrey davidson premium about three years ago that was quite lovely.
  Thu. 11/13/08 10:01am Lucky:

Great show and great segues (fern knight -> anne briggs & quintron -> stereototal). nice. holiday inn is still appreciated!
  Thu. 11/13/08 10:02am jason:

i had a mental image this morning that trouble was going to be playing quintron --- have you heard "waterfall" on 2 thirsty 4 love? insanely catchy!
  Thu. 11/13/08 10:05am paulthepostman:

13 is the only teen year I think everyone would skip, if they could. That may be why the 13th floor is omitted in buildings, teen dread.
  Thu. 11/13/08 10:07am bzul:

Touch the hem of Irwin's jacket to a frozen transmitter and fruit and flowers will blossom forth as ice melts instantly away, I betcha. (Quota filled...?)

  Thu. 11/13/08 11:06am pigpen:

yeah, I only 'heard' mumma from watching an episode of a Robert Ashley series on VHS. The sound quality was poor, which made it even weirder to see him and an accomplice running around w/radio gear on their backs.

Trouble...yes, ritmos = rhyttms
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:08am dc pat:

or in other words....Rhythms
Thu. 11/13/08 11:10am north guinea hills:

Matt, the Mumma stuff I have is all electronic. His "Studio Retrospective" is a pretty nice review of his electronic work from the 1960's-1970's. His album on John Zorn's Tzadik label is pretty awesome too. Here's a good link to his discography: http://www.lovely.com/bios/mumma.html
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:13am Matt:

Awesome- thanks for the info!
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:22am Carmichael:

I'm as open-minded as the next guy about music and culture, but ....

This is some freaky-ass shit ....
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:23am stingy d:

nah man that track was slammin
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:23am girl:

freaky is good.
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:24am fishmonkeystew:

Carmichael, be careful about that statement. I've found that usually the "next" guy is not so open-minded.

I kinda dug that track. It was a bit like chipmunks on acid.
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:25am mike:

'crab song' this is so great! trouble you're the best wherere would i hear all these songs without this show
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:26am paulthepostman:

re cantonese record:
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:27am Carmichael:

I'm about ten minutes into an insane workplace, and two sips into my first caffeine of the day. Add that cantonese music to the mix (and the fact that I watched Blue Velvet last night on pain pills -- bad back), and I suddenly re-felt the microdot rush in my brain.
Thu. 11/13/08 11:27am Doug from DC:

Maybe if you took psychedelics once a week, you'd be more open minded than the next guy.
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:29am Carmichael:

Or avoid the middle man and give psychedelics directly to the next guy, thus improving the bell curve.
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:29am stingy d:

carmichael - you are seriously on to something here.
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:29am Joe:

You'd certainly be more... something. A lot of things, really.
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:29am Bad Ronald:

Heineken? Fuck that Shit!
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:31am fishmonkeystew:

  Thu. 11/13/08 11:32am Bad Ronald:

Girl - Correct!
Thu. 11/13/08 11:33am north guinea hills:

wow, trouble, i haven't heard skylab in over 10 years... reminds of the chillout rooms of yore!
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:33am Bad Ronald:

BV reference...
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:33am Joe:

but it's cheap!

Seriously though, best beer for the price. However their recent corporate marketing tactics piss me off. Next time you hear a hipster talking about how its a "geniune" beer, punch them in the throat.

Great now I'm thirsty.

  Thu. 11/13/08 11:34am 55fps:

Oh wait, wrong site.

  Thu. 11/13/08 11:35am stingy d:

i found this awesome schlitz mirror in the garbage the other day but i let it go.
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:35am Carmichael:

Girl, you and Bad Ronald can drink with me anytime! Just make sure the brew ain't refrigerated.
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:36am Bad Ronald:

  Thu. 11/13/08 11:36am Joe:

My new brew is Sly Fox. It's a small time, independent, dirt cheap brew. They have a canned Belgian white that is tastetacular. So far I've only been able to get it in Midtown though.

PBR is, in a roundabout way, now also owned by a Pete Coors, reknowned right wing assface.
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:37am girl:

carmichael - as long as you got the oxygen tank!
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:37am dc pat:

Joe: Now we're talkin. Not too into American versions of Belgian beers but I'll try.
Thu. 11/13/08 11:37am Doug from DC:

check DCP BB is good, I prefer Newcastle but it's good to support the locals.
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:40am jaypee:

Mmmmm.. Bell's Two Hearted. If you can find it, try Rush River's Bubblejack IPA.
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:40am stingy d:

i gotta give a look for utica club - because there is no cheaper crud than that... and i love it
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:41am dc pat:

I've found that Newcastle is quite often skinked. Damned clear bottle.

  Thu. 11/13/08 11:43am stingy d:

i think the word "skink" means to pour out... so... you are not exactly wrong, just weird.
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:44am Lucky:

Red Strip

Tecate (in the can)

Old Speckled Hen (on tap)

London Pride (on tap - shout out to Clare's dad!)

St. Peter's Golden Ale

Jamesy! Where are you? What's your poison? I want to know!
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:44am dc pat:

hmm, so you skink a skunked Newcastle?
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:45am Parq:

Miss T, you are probably already familiar with Roald Dahl's introduction to his novel Matilda, in which he fantasizes about how he would handle parent conferences if he were a teacher. If not, go grab a copy and read it.
Thu. 11/13/08 11:45am Doug from DC:

I'll look for the Bubblejack. My new find is RJ Rockers Bell Ringer Ale, from Spartanburg, SC. Hits the spot, if you can find it.
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:45am Carmichael:

Any good nut brown ale can top Newcastle, methinks.

Are all the above beers local Jersey/NY brews? Damn, I thought California was the land of microbreweries ...
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:46am Obima:

Usa i promise, the dream is over!!
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:48am dc pat:

I want to find one of those bourbon cask aged brews. Sounds interesting.
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:48am GP:

Oh..I get it, you are "Obima"...pheww... had me worried for a moment there.
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:48am jaypee:

Bell's and Rush River are Midwest brews. (Michigan and WIsconsin, respectively)
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:48am Bad Ronald:

Believe it or not but Trader Joe's brews their own and they're not too bad for the price.
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:48am dc pat:

YEAH, make*up!! dc's own
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:49am stingy d:

i used to like newcastle and then one day it just became hideously disgusting. and it had nothing to do with skinking them skunky ones.

i hope this english lesson doesn't infuse my gully status with homotional thuggery
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:50am stingy d:

  Thu. 11/13/08 11:52am Carmichael:

We got 3 of 'em in this town, and 2 more within 75 miles. We're lousy with Trader Joe's ...
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:54am stingy d:

the only valid thing abotu los angeles is in-n-out burger... i wish ny had at least two.
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:54am Carmichael:

You truly are trouble, Trouble. Playing this at a party just begs people to chug their drink of choice and scream. Which of course changes the landscape a bit.
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:55am Tom Lyle:

I was wondering when you were going to play some hendrix. RIP Mitch Mitchell
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:55am Josh:

stingy, you taking those burgers animal style?
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:56am Bad Ronald:

Actually Carmichael, I think it was your reference to Blue Velvet that set the thread off...
  Thu. 11/13/08 11:56am GP:

We have Whole Foods but no Trader Joe's here yet.

Trouble..that Hendrix song...WoW!
