Playlist for This Is the Modern World with Trouble - October 2, 2008

Thursdays 9am - Noon on WFMU 91.1 fm 90.1 fm wfmu.org

A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Thu. 10/2/08 9:45am From: 55fps

Thu. 10/2/08 9:46am From: trouble

ouch! those anitas couldn't be more different!

Thu. 10/2/08 9:47am From: Ken

Trouble, I just realized that you are the person responsible for all band names and song titles being all lower case in our playlists system's memory. For shame!

Thu. 10/2/08 9:49am From: Fontastic

lowercase is just like so much more laid back man...groovy

Thu. 10/2/08 9:50am From: stingy d

hi.... the dave amtthews song that got in my head courtesy of the coffee shop would like to be eradicated please

Thu. 10/2/08 9:52am From: trouble

there is no shame in not letting the uppercase man ruin my love.

Thu. 10/2/08 9:52am From: GP

stingy d, I hope it was not "Ants Marching", that would be just too much of a cliche for me to take this early.

Thu. 10/2/08 9:54am From: stingy d

Thu. 10/2/08 9:55am From: 55fps

Trouble, who's on this McLean track?

Thu. 10/2/08 9:57am From: stingy d

this song is great by the way... can you stay in this realm!?!?

Thu. 10/2/08 9:59am From: GP

I think I meant irony not cliche...anyhooo. Last time I saw DMB the concert was not good, like they phoned it in. They used have a pretty energetic show, oh well. End of concert review for today.

Thu. 10/2/08 10:00am From: Hector

Hey, 55fps, the guys on the Mclean Track are (apart from Mclean) Grachan Moncur, Lamont Johnson, Scott Holt and Billy Higgins, usual fellows in late Blue Note recordings during 60s.
What bunch of records they did...

Thu. 10/2/08 10:00am From: Dale

Hey 55fps, I spent many a night back in the early 80s driving to the Continental in a blizzard....is it still there?

Thu. 10/2/08 10:01am From: trouble

Thu. 10/2/08 10:24am From: Parq

Hi gang. Dug the "directives" SOTD pic on the homepage. That's pretty much the way the whole world looks to me nowadays -- I know that a lot of you can 10-4 that.

Listen, if you're going to confuse Lady O'Day with another Anita, at least make it Ekberg.

Thu. 10/2/08 10:26am From: St.Even Denver!!

Hell yes!!! Nino Rota!!!

Thu. 10/2/08 10:28am From: Ian

Ann Arbor needs the sun!

Thu. 10/2/08 10:34am From: Ian

You have to work there like I did, breadbox 2000-2003. I still enjoy it once a month!

Thu. 10/2/08 10:36am From: TT

That lykke li was just insanely lovely.

Thu. 10/2/08 10:37am From: stingy d

Thu. 10/2/08 10:50am From: GP

That Susan Christy track was nicely engineered..great sound there even form my dime store cans.

Hi Shana

Thu. 10/2/08 10:54am From: Parq

Miss T, if you go for Spanish rumba, you should check out an album called "Rey de la Rumba" from a Gypsy dude known as Peret. He hosts a different guest artist on each track, and it's the cream of Spanish rock -- Amparanoia, Manu Chau, Dusmiguet, Estopa, etc. -- plus, inevitably, David Byrne. Great album.

Thu. 10/2/08 10:55am From: Carmichael

Morning from California.

Thu. 10/2/08 10:56am From: St.Even Denver

Thu. 10/2/08 11:12am From: dc pat

you don't sound like Palin--she sounds like a batty, old, witch who's been hold up in a log cabin in the middle of nowhere for about 80 years.

Thu. 10/2/08 11:14am From: Hector

Don´t be embarrased for your spanish pronounciation! You should hear my english one...
But the point is anyone can enjoy las grecas or any music by the way, without having to understand it...

Thu. 10/2/08 11:15am From: Big Brother

My CIA contacts tell me that Trouble and Sarah Palin are twins separated at birth. Trouble was raised on a moister farm in RI while Sarah was raised as a princess in Wasilla. One was seduced by the dark side.

Thu. 10/2/08 11:16am From: Dale

Tonight will be interesting, both for what she says, and for what she's being coached to not say.

Thu. 10/2/08 11:16am From: Sean Daily

Not even close to first comment! Woo hoo!

Thu. 10/2/08 11:17am From: Sean Daily

I'm not gonna watch, Dale. Either way, it's gonna be a train wreck, either for the Republicans or the Democrats.

Thu. 10/2/08 11:19am From: Dale

It may just be a totally scripted bore....

Thu. 10/2/08 11:20am From: Carmichael

I get my news from Stephen Colbert.

Thu. 10/2/08 11:21am From: GP

Vivian Girls easier to say than Schwing (SCHWING!! - shameless nod to Wayne's World)) stelle or Schlammpeitziger, but we like them all the same.

Thu. 10/2/08 11:29am From: Ian

Shana, moved to Portland for a few years, back to finish my undergrad---a year left, and then back to West for landscape architecture grad programs!

Thu. 10/2/08 11:32am From: Parq

I'm with Sean. The debate is going to be a staged event comprising competing infomercials, and watching it can only end in tears. Also, 10-4 to Charmicheal on Colbert as news source. Stingy, the answer to your question is, what the IRS is going to demand from you the minute they find out you've got the grand.

Thu. 10/2/08 11:33am From: GP

Glad I'm not th eonly Clarissa fan round here...that show was an excellent model for how to do things right on a sitcom. My wife and I would watch it all the time even before we had kids who could enjoy it. I'm sure it is on DVD like everything else these days.

Thu. 10/2/08 11:36am From: dc pat

Thu. 10/2/08 11:54am From: Brian

Thu. 10/2/08 11:56am From: GP

Stand on your head to read Brian, it works..
Ike...stick around a bit will you, we need your commentary and your grammar help as well.

Thu. 10/2/08 11:57am From: Parq

The old songs are still the best, Brian. And doesn't poor Ike have enough on his mind without people saying "you're playlist"?

Thu. 10/2/08 11:58am From: Brian

Standing on my head was my first instinct. But the screen reloads to the top. I can't see the bottom, and the bottom is where I want to be.
