I'm on a Verizon-supplied T1 at the office. If it really hits the fan, there's always the iPhone stream.

128K stream. Many dropouts here during Southern Pacific. Got much better for Rachid Taha, but maybe that's just my computer knowing what's good for its health. Shout out to Ken for playing this -- better live though. Dropouts getting rarer but still occuring during Led Zep, but none for a minute or so (playing on Winamp; windows XP, can't figure out buffer size right now)

Lots of vultures, hawks, eagles this year up here. Saw a bald eagle over the house last week (harriman, ny). Many flocks of 30-40 vultures; wait 'til you see a dozen of them perched in some tree. scary! saw 70+ vultures flockin' over Narrowsburg PA.

Yeah, looking at my "Birds-The Definitive Visual Guide" book here, birds of prey are classified in a single order. American vultures are not closely related to Old World vultures. But I doubt our vultures here are descended from turkeys, but from wherever birds of prey branched out from the tree of life that came out of dinosaurs. The bare heads of vultures is an adaptation to sticking their heads in dead carcasses with ease and not getting their head feathers all gummed up and sticky. handy huh?

WHAT IS A BUZZARD?
Buzzard is the correct term for a family of hawks. (ie the European buzzard, Buteo buteo, closely related to the American red tailed hawk). In America, the term is often employed incorrectly to describe vultures. This probably dates back to the arrival of the first English colonists. There are no vultures of any type in England, so these pioneers probably gave the common term "buzzard" to all the soaring figures above the New World.

Turkey Vultures are also known to projectile vomit when startled - I rounded a corner on a backroad in rural Virginia, and one swooped up out of the way and obscured a third of my windscreen with filth.

I once saw a hawk tearing into some prey on top of an Escalade. It was pretty awesome.

We have lots of cool birds all over th place in Miami: ibises, cormorants, gorgeous snowy egrets, pelicans, little green parrots...

There's a flock of green parrots that fly over my house a few times daily, a few snowy egrets that peck around in my front yard, and a whole flock of ibises that hang around nearby. The ibises dig their beaks into the lawn, and their beaks get coated in mud after a rainfall.

Yes, their last line of defense is projectile vomiting. ... up to 6ft ... they cover a predator in vomit and make their escape while the predator is wondering what the hell happened. We have a vet school here and they put on a vulture show once in a while.

There's a huge flock of wild turkeys (not turkey vultures) that live on the grounds of a mental hospital on Staten Island. If you drive down that street sometimes you have to wait for them to cross. Apparently it's a crime to harm them within the NYC limits.

They're huge, BTW. Like little feathered dinosaurs. They don't vomit but the can leap/flap short distances and crap all over your car.
