  Wed. 5/28/08 9:05am PD:

Mornin.... I wasn't around last Wed, but I'll try not to be too offended that you didn't use my workstation photo. I guess I should have added the crying fat boy to it!
  Wed. 5/28/08 9:06am Ken:

Morning all.. PD, not sure which was yours.. I have more to add today.
  Wed. 5/28/08 9:09am Laurie:

PD, how's Faffer?
  Wed. 5/28/08 9:09am Laurie:

Good morning, Ken. PD's listening station is the one surrounded by bongs.
  Wed. 5/28/08 9:10am dei x:

  Wed. 5/28/08 9:10am PD:

  Wed. 5/28/08 9:16am Doug:

I usually let my officemates play what music they like, but I must overrule them on Kendays.
  Wed. 5/28/08 9:19am JJZ:

Hm. I'm pretty excited. June is Entertainment Ratings and Labeling Awareness Month
  Wed. 5/28/08 9:20am Richard:

Ken, Do you want to mention Wire are playing for FREE at south St seaport this friday at 7.00? It's actually a great series and not usually crowded like the Summerstage things. How about a Wire request too? mmmm Outdoor Miner?
  Wed. 5/28/08 9:20am Okasa:

Ken, can you pronounce the first word of the name of the Satanicpornocultshop song as Tak'san instead of Ta KU san? Arigatou!
  Wed. 5/28/08 9:22am dei x:

Parq, it's because they are so dolls! Many a day in my childhood was spent chatting with my little Greedo in his favorite balloon nozzle dress. I still love drag queens, regardless of galaxy.
  Wed. 5/28/08 9:27am Negator:

Ken, what's up, baby? The new Sparks record is sounding quite amazing! I've heard a few tracks and they just sound remarkable! Have you heard about 21 albums in 21 nights thing they are doing in London this month? Astounding! Have you seen the new PR with them singing with monkeys?
  Wed. 5/28/08 9:28am giselle:

If coffee makes me feel so shitty, why do I want to keep drinking it?! That is the sign of a dangerous drug... If alcohol or weed make me feel like crap, I just stop.. but coffee just makes you keep crawling back for more.

  Wed. 5/28/08 9:51am Happy Listener:

Excellent show, Ken! I'm a daily coffee drinker, but no nausea from it, yet. Hope that clears up, or you kick the java habit, or learn to live with it. Whatever works for you, even if it's suffering through it and inflicting it on your audience.

  Wed. 5/28/08 10:05am Ken:

What is your ISP, Happy Listener? It wou;dn't be Comcast, would it? We have a LOT of trouble with Comcast.
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:06am SueB:

i got pennsyltuckey cable and it keeps dropping out, but it only lasts a second.
Wed. 5/28/08 10:06am Randy in NC:

Happy Listener - My feed is cutting in and out right now. I have Time Warner Cable. Not sure if it's the ISP.
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:06am Vivian:

Anyone experiencing stream problems with Itunes? Network stalling with Neil!!
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:07am Doug:

I'm experiencing dropouts in Ann Arbor, too.
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:07am Bryant:

Winamp is dropping out, too. Optimum Online here.
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:07am Happy Listener:

I've got Uniserve up here in Montreal.

  Wed. 5/28/08 10:08am Raj:

Yep, my Itunes signal is moody.
Gateway Cable, Prince William County VA
Try them, they suck.
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:08am Ken:

Dang! Tons of dropouts! I will call Doron right away.. Try using the AAC+ stream for fewer dropouts (I bet):

http://wfmu.org/wfmu_aacplus.pls
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:09am uta:

here too..
Wed. 5/28/08 10:09am Listener Dave from NH:

I'm getting intermittent dropouts (a couple of seconds every few minutes) up here in N'Hampsha too.
I'm on a Verizon-supplied T1 at the office. If it really hits the fan, there's always the iPhone stream.
Wed. 5/28/08 10:09am Randy in NC:

Ken, based on this survey of reports, I'm guessing the issue is closer to FMU's servers.
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:10am Happy Listener:

It ends up sounding like someone is tapping the dump button. Thanks for the aac link, I'll give that a try.

This version of Rock the Casbah doesn't suck at all.
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:11am Ken:

Yessir Randy, I agree. The problem is probably related to changes we made recently on our end... I hope it can be fixed real quick.
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:12am Raj:

I just read this. Is it mistaken:

AAC files play in Itunes but not AAC streams.
Wed. 5/28/08 10:12am one gorgeous blonde:

  Wed. 5/28/08 10:13am Ghengis Jung:

Ken's gettin' the Led out...
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:14am Ken:

It would be really helpful for me to know which stream you are listening to, as opposed to which player you are using. I suspect that the problem is with the 128k MP3 stream. Let me know! Your feedback is very helpful!
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:14am Happy Listener:

Yeah, the AAC isn't working in iTunes, but the 128k MP3 stream seems to be okay again.
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:15am C:

I was on 128 MP3 and it was dropping off every few minutes. Seems to have cleared up a bit now.
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:15am j:

128k MP3 stream ... yes ... better now
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:16am dc pat:

dang hard to tell w/ this Led Zep mashup thing...
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:16am Laurie:

You can play the AAC stream in VLC. a free software.

And, yeah, the 128k stream is back to working. (I had the same problem just a few minutes ago.)
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:16am SueB:

betta
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:16am Happy Listener:

Earlier, both streams (32/128) were affected, now doubleplusgood. Rectified.
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:17am JJZ:

128k mp3 has been rock solid for me, or I've just not noticed any issues.
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:18am Listener Dave:

Had a few blips on the 20k windows stream earlier in the show (work forces me to use it, don't ask) but not in the last half hour or so.
Wed. 5/28/08 10:18am Randy in NC:

128k mp3 here, but it's good now.
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:18am Ghengis Jung:

Zatumba fixed it!
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:18am Happy Listener:

I was all too ready to blame my internet provider, based on previous experience.
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:18am Bad Ronald:

128 is fine for me today but I had similar issues yesterday during Joe B's show
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:19am Raj:

Thanks, Laurie. Love VLC.
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:20am Happy Listener:

I love this "technical difficulty" interlude. Please stand by with the Led Loop.
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:21am Ken:

Thanks for fixing it Doron, what was the problem?
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:22am fred:

128K stream. Many dropouts here during Southern Pacific. Got much better for Rachid Taha, but maybe that's just my computer knowing what's good for its health. Shout out to Ken for playing this -- better live though. Dropouts getting rarer but still occuring during Led Zep, but none for a minute or so (playing on Winamp; windows XP, can't figure out buffer size right now)
Wed. 5/28/08 10:23am Listener Dave from NH:

128K MP3 stream up here. It's been better, but there was a blip towards the end of that Led Zep track.
I hope that guitarist's career takes a turn for the better so that he can afford some pants. Some shorts, at least.
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:23am Ken:

Dont judge the stream by the Zep remix... all sorts of intentional weirdness during that...
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:25am Happy Listener:

The 128k stream is still flowing, here. Thanks, Doron!
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:26am Liz B.:

It was all my fault. Throw the stones! I paused the Shoutcast script instead of exiting out of it while I was checking the streams. Pause makes trouble.
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:27am Happy Listener:

Let him who is without egregious technical error cast the first stone.
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:28am Raj:

Hope the stream doesn't stall out during Vincent's Zappacast this summer...
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:29am Liz B.:

This doesn't explain troubles with Joe Belock's show yesterday, however. Can the person who was hearing dropouts give some details about that?
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:30am johN:

This party is totally geeked out.
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:30am Ken:

Liz - It was only one person having problems during Joe's show when all was said and done.
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:32am Bad Ronald:

Hey Liz - Ken's correct it seemed to be a local issue for me but it's strangely coincidental that folks are experiencing the same issues I was yesterday...
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:33am Listener Dave:

Raj - I'm with you, blips on the Zappacast would be bad.

Hey Ken, any follow-up on any of the auditioners from last week's SSD?
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:35am jonathan:

nightmare...those two images in a row. holy shit.
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:36am johN:

I hope the over night Art Bell style fella gets a slot.
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:37am Laurie:

On the contrary, I think blips would improve any Frank Zappa song.
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:38am Ken:

I've been trying to reach the Art Bell guy! No word back yet.
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:39am PD:

Oh, I so love Hillary lovin' the watermelon!
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:39am Raj:

Accordioman: MELONBOY....I AM YOUR FATHER!!!!

Melonboy: NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

(Hmmmm, trying to picture the look on Melonboy's face at that point...)
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:45am fred:

No dropouts for a while, all clear now. That Nena tune did drop me back more years than I care to count though...
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:47am Mark:

Ken - now with 90% less Robert Plant!
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:48am dc pat:

keep it cooly baby
Wed. 5/28/08 10:49am Listener Mike in California:

"90% less is still 100% of something." -Unknown
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:51am anne:

you're welcome, Ken! the ones depicted in the painting were 8 or 9 in two trees in Danville, CA over winter break. there's plenty vultures in these parts as well and i'm glad you saw some!
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:52am trent:

This balloon and string quartet is a great M83 impersonation
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:52am Happy Listener:

I've got 100% fewer mp3 stream dropouts, now. ^_^
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:54am Jack:

Re: Vultures
Lots of vultures, hawks, eagles this year up here. Saw a bald eagle over the house last week (harriman, ny). Many flocks of 30-40 vultures; wait 'til you see a dozen of them perched in some tree. scary! saw 70+ vultures flockin' over Narrowsburg PA.
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:56am Happy Listener:

I once heard that vultures in the North America and those in the Old World are totally different birds - the ones over here are descended from turkeys, and the others are true raptors.
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:56am Ken:

Why so many more vultures in Jersey? Is there more roadkill?
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:57am Listener David:

Where on Rt 94 did you see all the vultures?
  Wed. 5/28/08 10:59am Ken:

Saw them nearby Route 15 and 94, after I dropped off Squeaky Chair in the Lafayette dump.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:02am Listener David:

I know that area well...right by the propane tanks
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:04am Bad Ronald:

Any more Melon Boys?
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:04am anne:

Yeah, looking at my "Birds-The Definitive Visual Guide" book here, birds of prey are classified in a single order. American vultures are not closely related to Old World vultures. But I doubt our vultures here are descended from turkeys, but from wherever birds of prey branched out from the tree of life that came out of dinosaurs. The bare heads of vultures is an adaptation to sticking their heads in dead carcasses with ease and not getting their head feathers all gummed up and sticky. handy huh?

and hey, check out this website http://vulturesociety.homestead.com/Events.html. Looks like we missed the east coast vulture festival. there's always next year!
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:06am SueB:

blood. gross!
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:06am Happy Listener:

Thanks, anne!
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:07am Bad Ronald:

Thanks! - Is it possible that Melon Boy is a young Joe Belock?
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:08am dc pat:

what are all groovies from?
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:11am anne:

one more vulture fact, sorry i am a nerd...

from that website The Turkey Vulture Society "In 1994, it was discovered that the vultures inhabiting the American continents share a common ancestor with storks and ibises."
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:13am Laurie:

Yeah, lighten up, Mozzers.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:14am Happy Listener:

another helpful fact:
WHAT IS A BUZZARD?
Buzzard is the correct term for a family of hawks. (ie the European buzzard, Buteo buteo, closely related to the American red tailed hawk). In America, the term is often employed incorrectly to describe vultures. This probably dates back to the arrival of the first English colonists. There are no vultures of any type in England, so these pioneers probably gave the common term "buzzard" to all the soaring figures above the New World.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:14am SueB:

I usually live out of broadcast-range, but this weekend i was driving through i guess the NJ high point area and finally tuned into a decent station that suddenly made my brain happier the longer i listened. then i realized i was catching FMU. I am an addict.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:16am Ken:

Yes, but here in Jersey the term "Turkey Buzzard" most definitely describes one type of vulture.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:17am Parq:

Just rejoining the party - THE SQUEAKY CHAIR IS GONE?? Ah me, the end of an era.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:18am SueB:

is the squeaky mic still there? i thought we voted on that one.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:18am Doug:

Huh, songs today.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:18am Laurie:

I live in Miami, and we have two types of vultures: Black vultures and turkey vultures. Turkey vultures are ugly as sin and scary up close, but they look beautiful soaring in the sky.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:19am dc pat:

buzzards only appear in Westerns made in the 40s and 50s
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:19am Happy Listener:

I've heard them called that, as well. Apparently, they're Turkey Vultures, so sayeth the Turkey Vulture Society. I wonder what their BBQ is like...
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:20am Ken:

Yes, Andy Breckman had been telling me about songs for so long that I decided to check some out. They're really... interesting..
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:20am SueB:

i used to think they were hawks growing up.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:20am Megan:

lovvvve this song!
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:21am Drew:

One of the all-time classics.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:21am Ken:

Turkey Vultures also STINK to high heaven. One swooped me while I was riding my bike and I actually smelled it - they smell like rotten flesh.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:21am SueB:

i mean I was growing up thinking htey were hawks. i mean as i grew i thought they were hawks and then ..no..just bloody scavengers. dissallusionment.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:22am Ghengis Jung:

So, these are songs... Hmmm...
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:23am Doug:

I find songs very, uh, structured ...
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:23am david:

Starry eyes...classic rock? what's happening? Ken??
Wed. 5/28/08 11:23am Listener Dave from NH:

Bring back the sad hippie noise!
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:23am anne:

looks like also their primary defense is vomiting half-digested meat.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:23am dc pat:

now that's interesting--buzzards stink! Wonder what eagles smell like? Money?
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:24am Happy Listener:

Turkey Vultures are also known to projectile vomit when startled - I rounded a corner on a backroad in rural Virginia, and one swooped up out of the way and obscured a third of my windscreen with filth.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:25am jonathan:

feeling sick
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:25am Laurie:

I once saw a hawk tearing into some prey on top of an Escalade. It was pretty awesome.

We have lots of cool birds all over th place in Miami: ibises, cormorants, gorgeous snowy egrets, pelicans, little green parrots...

There's a flock of green parrots that fly over my house a few times daily, a few snowy egrets that peck around in my front yard, and a whole flock of ibises that hang around nearby. The ibises dig their beaks into the lawn, and their beaks get coated in mud after a rainfall.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:25am Doug:

Yes, their last line of defense is projectile vomiting. ... up to 6ft ... they cover a predator in vomit and make their escape while the predator is wondering what the hell happened. We have a vet school here and they put on a vulture show once in a while.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:27am Happy Listener:

I expect it's also easier to make a quick aerial getaway with an "empty tank", so to speak.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:27am Ken:

Vomiting half digested meat sounds like a very good strategy to me.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:28am Ghengis Jung:

Yes, but half-digested meat is so hard to find.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:28am Happy Listener:

Yes, I get more free deli meals that way.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:28am dei x:

who needs dogs to guard the ol' homestead, when you can have giant queasy bald pigeons set off by a motion detector operated feedback loop? BTW what's the quantity term for turkey vultures?
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:29am Listener Dave:

There's a huge flock of wild turkeys (not turkey vultures) that live on the grounds of a mental hospital on Staten Island. If you drive down that street sometimes you have to wait for them to cross. Apparently it's a crime to harm them within the NYC limits.

They're huge, BTW. Like little feathered dinosaurs. They don't vomit but the can leap/flap short distances and crap all over your car.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:30am Happy Listener:

Well, if it's a "murder" of crows, maybe a "pathological disaster" of turkey vultures?
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:30am anne:

A group of turkey vultures is called a venue apparently (wikipedia). to add to their charms, they also pee on their legs to cool off. Peeing on their legs also kills any germs of their legs from standing in rotten meat at mealtime.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:30am dc pat:

and they smell like turkey...mmmm
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:30am Bruce:

The price of half-digested meat is up 30 percent over the last year. ...part of the silent tsunami.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:30am Bad Ronald:

Law Firm
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:32am dei x:

They pee on their feet, just like Madonna. Who knew!
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:32am Swami:

Half digested turkey vultures. Silent nigiri. Beware of sushi.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:32am anne:

kettle when circling...
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:33am Swaim:

Don't shoot. I'm just the channeler.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:36am T:

Good wingspan on those vultures. Biggest wingspan in N.Am, I'm pretty sure.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:36am Ghengis Jung:

Which part is the melody?
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:40am Doug:

So, do you figure this "melody" thing is going to catch on? Pretty soon all the kids will be listening to them ...
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:41am Ghengis Jung:

I don't know. They are pretty complicated to listen to... So many notes!
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:44am T:

Vultures as a family that is.

According to this diagram, guns appear to fall within the same grouping, but they have a much smaller wingspan by comparison: http://cres.sandiegozoo.org/images/condor_compare_chart.jpg
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:50am Parq:

Thanks for the Dinah remix, Ken. I'm a big fan of the "Is You Is or Is You Ain't" remix from the same session, and this version of "River" is new to me.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:51am HotRod:

Forget about coffee...all this vulture talk works well as an ipecac.
Wed. 5/28/08 11:52am Ted from Baltimore:

Love the pic accompanying Cry Me a River. Where's it from? (And love the Dinah W. rendition too -- I only know the song from J.C. and Julie London in "The Girl Can't Help It.")
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:53am Happy Listener:

Jarboe wants you to cry her a river... of blood.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:55am Happy Listener:

SWana, Ken?
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:58am Listener Dave:

Can Zatumba out-vomit a Turkey vulture? Or can he use his powers to make a human do so?
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:59am Jeff M:

I'm still searching high and low for my balls.
  Wed. 5/28/08 11:59am Happy Listener:

Thanks for another great show, Ken! I'm on my way to work with an iPod full of Patton Oswalt and the first 3 Wire albums.
  Wed. 5/28/08 12:06pm Swami:

Tragic Mulatto! Wow. Blast from my past! They still around? Loved them and No Trend.
  Wed. 5/28/08 12:39pm m008e:

Theme from Andy Griffith. Game over.
  Wed. 5/28/08 1:33pm -max-:

A note about the squeaky chair: Don't count it out yet! Over the years many chairs have been replaced, but each time the squeak came back, like some disembodied presence, haunting the station.
  Wed. 5/28/08 4:21pm spaniel:

really enjoyed the 2nd to last song on 2nd, the 2nd to last set and everything that was not the 2nd to last song of the 2nd to last set. verily verily, my bathtub runneth over. uh oh, uh oh
  Wed. 5/28/08 8:32pm Negator:

Is it true Turkey Vultures can store small amounts of ejaculate on Turkey gobblers? Real turkey?
  Sat. 5/31/08 12:34pm Ozzy Skateboard:
