Playlist for This Is the Modern World with Trouble - May 22, 2008

Thursdays 9am - Noon on WFMU 91.1 fm 90.1 fm wfmu.org

A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Thu. 5/22/08 9:39am From: dc pat

count me in on the "hate the style council" crowd

Thu. 5/22/08 9:40am From: Ian

Hey Trouble! Love your show from Ann Arbor!

Thu. 5/22/08 9:40am From: GUMBY

Buenos Dias, Bonjour and Hi jorge, Trouble and everyone from the Joisey Sure. The sun is shining, no it's raining, sun shining, no.... Pretty trippy weather here.
Happy B-Day Mr. Weller!

Thu. 5/22/08 9:41am From: jorge

i usually dj @ a club and i have that one guy who always ask me to play a paul weller track, dont know why i cant decide what to play and i never play any paul weller, any advice Trouble?, this guys would kill me some day

Thu. 5/22/08 9:42am From: dc pat

play Art School, that'll get him...

Thu. 5/22/08 9:47am From: GUMBY

Play "My Ever Changing Moods" or "Eton Rifles" and act like a baddass, that'll get rid of him.

Thu. 5/22/08 9:47am From: jorge

let me fin that one, thanks dc

Thu. 5/22/08 9:50am From: jorge

actually i dont wanna get rid of the guy, i just cant decide which track to play and times go by

Thu. 5/22/08 9:52am From: dc pat

well the first and third Jam albums are my favs but I would take Trouble's advice on this issue as I'm not the HUGEST Weller fan. It's funny, I always aim to get rid of people when I dj--guess that's why I suck at it.

Thu. 5/22/08 9:53am From: GUMBY

I was just kidding. Although "Eton Rifles" does contain two of Weller's greatest lines. "We were no match for their untamed wit. Though some of the lads said they'll be back next week" Love that part.

Thu. 5/22/08 9:55am From: north guinea hills

dc pat, cleaning the room used to be my goal when dj'ing until i found some clubs/parties where people actually had good taste in music. i still remember playing a club in florida back in the day-glo 90's when i got sick of dj'ing for candy ravers and put on a 20 minute merzbow track and the place cleared minus my laughing friends. i never got asked to dj there ever again. good times.

Thu. 5/22/08 9:56am From: jorge

haha, also happens to me sometimes i wanna get rid of two kinds of people (dont know there but here in spain happens a lot) the smiths crew and the belle and sebastians crew, my god those people always ask for the sam f** song

Thu. 5/22/08 9:58am From: dc pat

Glad to hear I'm not the only one. DJ Barclere plays the Ex, Buttholes, and Coltrane's Om and if anybody is left, I want to take them home with me.

Thu. 5/22/08 9:59am From: e-card

excellent song!

Thu. 5/22/08 9:59am From: Parq

Paul Weller's BD already? My, how time flies. I've always loved Ted Leo's FMU-centric take on "That's Entertainment", but DJIP's reading of "Modern World" is even better.

Thu. 5/22/08 10:01am From: jorge

wow that would be my surrealistic fav set dc. Ill take a couple of drinks with that guy for sure....killer track by the way (put you back together)

Thu. 5/22/08 10:02am From: Andy

noonday underground was Paul Weller's 'most influential band of all time'

Thu. 5/22/08 10:12am From: jorge

i´ll strongly recommend to watch that OST movie is called "ciudad de dios" that would be city of Gods in english, Brazilia Foreva!!

Thu. 5/22/08 10:14am From: amanda.atx

morning trouble,
happy birthday Weller!
absolute luck is-love is in our hearts

Thu. 5/22/08 10:19am From: Listener Dave from NH

"City Of God" really is a fantastic movie, but left me feeling uncomfortable because of all the violence that children visit on one another.

Thu. 5/22/08 10:22am From: Wes

Anyone going to see ASMZ play the Black Cat in DC tomorrow night?

Thu. 5/22/08 10:26am From: jorge

Thu. 5/22/08 10:28am From: Doug from DC

Thu. 5/22/08 10:29am From: dc pat

wasn't planning on it, should I?

Thu. 5/22/08 10:31am From: jorge

Thu. 5/22/08 10:31am From: Wes

Depends, pat...you like that type of music? Godspeed/Montreal sound, Vic Chesnutt is opening up for them. Check youtube for some videos of them playing.

Thu. 5/22/08 10:31am From: GUMBY

Yah Mon! Ska me up Trouble!!!

Thu. 5/22/08 10:33am From: dc pat

Thu. 5/22/08 11:02am From: Parq

The Parqette just completed a 12th-grade history class section on the JFK assasination. With great pleasure, I dug up this Steinski classic and played it for her. She dug it, too.

Thu. 5/22/08 11:48am From: Parq

Wow, this new inclusion of Spanish-language stuff is great. Not to step in on Jorge's precinct, but a couple of bands from Spain you might dig are Estopa and Dusminguet.

Thu. 5/22/08 11:54am From: jorge

je suis tres enchante avec toi espagnol trouble, lovely set i dig it totally.

Thu. 5/22/08 12:23pm From: trouble

'i try mister fawlty, i try...' from one of the funniest, and most painful examples of being human...fawlty towers. My fave Jam songs are beat surrender, in the city, the modern world, going underground, david watts, smithers-jones...so many and not enuf dance floors. Cheers!
