Listener comments!

  Tue. 5/20/08 12:04pm Bad Ronald:

One of my favorite Jam tunes. - TX
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:11pm Parq:

let's not forget Ted Leo's rewrite of That's Ent, with FMU-centric lyrics, available on a Bew/o/Blog post for March 15, 2007.
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:11pm Cecile:

I have to get Lyres Lyres...
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:13pm dc pat:

what ever happened to Conolly?
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:16pm jeff:

just a plug for boss martians/rib eye bros. @ brighton bar in long branch on sat nite.
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:16pm Cynthia:

He's still around. Last time I saw him was several months ago when the sonics played NY..He DJ'd at the show- did the lyres play? I can't recall, if they did I missed 'em. I wasn 't feeling well and was saving energy for the sonics! But anyway he's in relatively good condition it seemed.
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:17pm Rubble:

That looks to be a great show at Brighton- Tommy Gunn DJ's too. Unfortunatley I 'll be away and have to miss it!
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:18pm Pierre Torque:

"Through the Night" starts out exactly the same as "Pleasant Valley Sunday"
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:18pm dc pat:

Speakin of which--how were the Sonics? That must have been pretty cool.
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:21pm Cynthia:

The Sonics were fantastic. Totally exceeded all my expectations!!!
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:23pm Cynthia:

Actually, I shouldn't put it that way because I kept my expectations low. So I'll just say, they were really great!
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:25pm dc pat:

Sorry I missed it. Can Roslie still scream his head off?
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:27pm Bad Ronald:

Anyone interested in seeing the Bong Guitar in action?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcCrTahsLg0
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:28pm Cynthia:

Yup! And the chops were there too. Just all-round great.
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:29pm Bluesman:

Great seeing Joe and Ms. Cynthia down at the Ponderosa Stomp a few weeks back. How was Green Fuzz? I missed em.
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:30pm Mundi:

yea - more Monkees, less Van Halen!
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:30pm Cecile:

Van Halen (at least the DLR) years had great intros...
Tue. 5/20/08 12:32pm Beast of Baltimore:

The serendipity of a random trawl: have you people been to the swaps site on myspace? I ain't too sure about the last couple of songs. But the first two blew my wig off. From somewhere in England I think (myspace.com/thebloodyswaps)
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:35pm ?:

Same here Bluesman! Ya know....The green fuzz was pretty good! Vocs were there, decent guitar sounds, and they had a lot of good energy. So...'nuff for me! It didn't blow me away but it was fun. (And thrust among the mindblowing musicianship rampant at the stomp, it's hard to measure up so to speak!)
Joe, I think the person meant that as a complement about the intro,.. Am I right Pierre? And Cecile.. we aren't allowed to say anything nice about Van Halen here. I think Joe has a rule. If not he should! :)
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:36pm Cynthia:

Oops that last posi was from me.
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:37pm Cecile:

Hey, a ton of people I know got into the Kinks thru Van Halen's covers... so phoo!
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:39pm jonathan:

house of pain on 1984 is a great, strange, mysterious song.
sorry.
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:40pm Cecile:

ITA.
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:40pm Bad Ronald:

I must side w/Cecile as far as the DLR VH they were awesome. However I was well aware of the kinks previously...
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:41pm Joe B:

No need to say sorry, you can like themI just hate Van Halen, moresoe the influence they had spawning a million awful bands/guitar players/imitators. Roth was easily the best thing about the band, which became apparent once Sammy Moron took over.
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:42pm dc pat:

I'm with Joe and Cynthia--can't stand 'em. I like the minutemen cover of ain't talkin bout love though.
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:42pm Cecile:

that's fair enough.
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:43pm Bad Ronald:

It is also now apparent what a dick Eddie is with the whole Michael Anthony/Wolfgang swap...
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:44pm Cynthia:

I must side with myself. :) Van Halen did enough damage via bad Eddie noodling to completely eclipse any and all merits of the band.
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:44pm Cecile:

Yes. Michael Anthony was VH's ace in the hole. You hear him singing on bootlegs, it's off the hook.

But to stay on topic, boy, I really like Headquarters. Great album.
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:46pm Cynthia:

Oh, I didn't realize Joe just said more or less the same thing.
Yeah, what Joe said!!
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:50pm Rubble:

I don't much care for van halen either but I sure do like Mudhoney! This is a goodun!
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:51pm Joe B:

Bluesman! Great to see you! Maybe next time it will be local! Keep rockin!
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:53pm George:

Van Halen's greatest contribution to society:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcB-BRSnlf8
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:55pm Bluesman:

I'll take any excuse to get back to NOLA. Between the Stomp, visiting da' family and taking my kids to certain "fun" spots, I never got the time to chow at Pascals (BBQ Shrimp, BABY!!!!) Otherwise, mebbe we can have it up in Sloatsburg!
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:56pm Bad Ronald:

They definitely had a knack for covers. However the sheer energy, balls and sense of humor made the band great in it's original incarnation.
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:58pm Cecile:

I'm with ya, bad ron, but I think you are preaching to the already converted here. ;D
  Tue. 5/20/08 12:59pm Bad Ronald:

OK, I'll drop it.
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:05pm Bad Ronald:

Hey Joe - What ever happened to broadcasting from the dumpster out back?
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:06pm Cecile:

I like Hall and Oates, though.
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:07pm Joe B:

We're working on it! Everyone can bring their VH records to put in the dumpester! (just kidding!) Don't get me started on Led Zeppelin either!
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:07pm Laurie:

I agree with Scharpling. Van Halen is children's music.
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:08pm TommyB:

Hall & Oates v. Loggins and McDonald
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:09pm giraffe-o:

Every hear the Daryl Hall solo album 'Sacred Songs', produced by Robert Fripp? Excellent stuff, even if one is dismayed by Hall & Oates pop repertoire
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:09pm Bad Ronald:

what's wrong with children's music Laurie. Any label will tell you they are an important demographic.
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:09pm Cecile:

Tagteam with Seals and Crofts and Zager and Evans.

Sacred Songs is great.
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:09pm B:

I hear that the HLs guitarist is kinda cool...the rest not so much.
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:09pm Rubble:

Who is McDonald? Is that the doobie bros guy?
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:10pm Cecile:

Yeah, rubble. or mr woo-woo we used to call him.
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:10pm Bad Ronald:

giraffe-o - Yes it was made around the same time Fripp recorded Exposure and XTC recorded Black Sea and everyone jumped from session to session.
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:10pm Rob:

This band has incredible energy. Kicks a--! The Hall Monitors rock like rock should be.
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:11pm Joe B:

DC Pat - Sonics were great! Roslie didn't go full throttlenuts but I didn't expect him to. Larry Parypa's guitar was perfect;y raunchy and great!

Connolly is still around, putting on solid performances, basically playing the same set I saw them play 20 years ago, but that's ok by me!
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:12pm TommyB:

Dudes, early VH rocked!!! I guess I was just a child at the time, but I think it still holds up as party rock.
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:13pm Cecile:

Hey, do you know if the Sonics plan to tour?
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:14pm Rob:

Saw the Hall Monitors open for The Sonics at Cavestomp. They were awesome.
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:16pm Joe B:

Cecile - no Sonics tour planned. They did the 2 NYC shows, and one in London. That's it for now. Wish they would do more though, they were great!
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:18pm cynthia:

When I like something I grew up with, I always second guess it's merit. Lotsa times it's just connected with those yummy memories and wasn't so good after all. Of course even after I realize something is awful, I don't necessarily stop liking it, nor do I have to defend it. I just appreciate it for what it is, warts and all.
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:22pm Cecile:

I just am going to have to visit friends in Seattle, then. It's about time.
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:23pm dc pat:

I saw the Lyres about 20 years ago too in Hoboken. Excellent show. I have this feeling that the Donner Party opened for them--could that have been possible? Anybody know who they were?
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:24pm DJ SHIMMY:

HALL MONITORS RULE!

2 weeks in a row of Hullabaloo-supported bands on 3 Chord Monte! Who's next Joe? Jimmy & The Wolfpack?
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:28pm Cecile:

pat, it was the 80s. I saw so many weird bills then.
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:31pm philthy:

Sonics are billed to appear at primavera sound May 30

http://www.primaverasound.com/index.php?idioma=en
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:31pm dc pat:

I don't think Donner Party played out that much and I didn't know them at the time... Just wondering if I inadvertently saw them.
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:32pm ?:

Great job by the hall monitors! This new ettes stuff is very good.. very authentic sounding. I usually don't get on board with cutesy sounding vocs but there is enough going on here to balance it out- and there is more going on here than tired girl band gimmickry. Looking forward to the album.
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:36pm Bad Ronald:

Thanks for the PT%tRO!!!!!!
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:51pm Bluesman:

I THINK the Donner Party were on Dave Amels Cryptovsion Label. Sort of REMish, Prae-Indy sound! Not bad from what I remember (lots of Beer back then).
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:54pm Bluesman:

Ba-ba-ra-ra-koo-koo-da-da!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:55pm Bad Ronald:

Bah-Rah-Koo-Dah!
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:56pm Sean Daily:

Man, that da-da was koo-koo. Daddy-o.
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:56pm Parq:

There was also a TV ad in which some mom kept saying "Bananacuda". Isn't it appalling that I still remember that?
  Tue. 5/20/08 1:57pm Bad Ronald:

No Parq, I find it somewhat impressive.
  Tue. 5/20/08 2:00pm mmm-mike:

I wish there were podcasts for this show! My iPod craves...
  Tue. 5/20/08 2:01pm Bad Ronald:

Nice tune by the Loners. I dig the production too!
  Tue. 5/20/08 2:03pm dc pat:

Donner Party was more folkie and more rockin than REM. Had a violin player and pretty distorted guitar parts. Really catchy tunes. Some one reissued their one and only album about 8 years ago(??). WAY better than REM.
  Tue. 5/20/08 2:05pm Bluesman:

Have to try and dig the DP LP outta my archives. Its been so many years, the violin does not ring a bell!
  Tue. 5/20/08 2:06pm cryptic john:

love that dry ice song
  Tue. 5/20/08 2:07pm Jimbo:

Play some White Drugs !!!
  Tue. 5/20/08 2:08pm kleinerstein:

is that BARRACUDA thing on the playlist? i need to hear that again!
  Tue. 5/20/08 2:12pm Cynthia:

No prize? Pft! :)
  Tue. 5/20/08 2:17pm Bad Ronald:

Did anyone get the answer?
  Tue. 5/20/08 2:19pm Bad Ronald:

This Steve Wynn tune has a nice feel... I dig it!
  Tue. 5/20/08 2:24pm puremendez:

cool station...
you should put some of bacalao men a band from venezuela really great
  Tue. 5/20/08 2:26pm puremendez:

and some of SUI GENERIS from argentina, likewise the master CHARLY GARCIA
  Tue. 5/20/08 2:36pm Sean Daily:

I wonder if he wants us to do the Slide?
  Tue. 5/20/08 2:37pm Bad Ronald:

No doubt BABY!
  Tue. 5/20/08 2:45pm Parq:

Man, I gotta get this new Laura. Sean D, I followed your link from Moistworks. Pretty cool!
  Tue. 5/20/08 2:56pm Rubble:

Really great show today Joe.
  Tue. 5/20/08 3:05pm Sean Daily:

Thanks, Parq.
  Tue. 5/20/08 3:07pm Sean Daily:

But, actually, that's a different Sean Daly.
  Sat. 6/28/08 8:26pm Boobie:
