Based in Middletown CT, The Balkan Situations formed at the northeast’s academic world-musical mecca Wesleyan University – and got their chops playing at a Thai restaurant (!) in town. During their glorious heyday of not very long ago, these lively young multi-culti upstarts played traditional and popular music across the Balkans and Eastern Europe. The band has pretty much dispersed to pursue their post-Wesleyan dreams around the country and around the world – but they got back together one more time for this very special broadcast.
Although there is one more chance to see them strut their stuff in a slightly altered format – a smaller version of the band, the Situations, will play a couple more nights next weekend at the Typhoon Thai restaurant in Middletown before moving on – info at: http://thebalkansituations.wordpress.com
Special thanks to engineer Bil Bowen and assistant Richard Rusincovitch.

Spaniel, I can tell you more later. I also have events listed on my concerts page, http://www.wfmu.org/world. But I suggest Mehanata, Drom, Barbes, Hungarian House among other places you'll hear similar young NY Balkan bands.
