The lazy calm at the week's start. A few live performances included, but mainly music with an ear tilted toward string-driven things.

December 17, 2007: Songs for a smiling man, and a sweet set from Hungrytown.
Ten weeks to the day after my mother, my dad, Ralph Thomas Trudel passed away at age 84.
My parents were a very close couple, even though my dad had spent nearly the last two years of his life in a nursing home apart from her. Ralph had broken his hip in early November. I believe he died of a broken heart (quite literally-- he had a heart attack a week after breaking his hip, and it's what broke down on him in the end).
Ralph nearly always had a smile on his face, even when times were tough. He'd had his share of those, raising five children on a middle class income, managing to give us all a decent home and love. In later life he was a survivor of prostate cancer, a broken neck, a broken shoulder, a stroke (and a few small ones) and various heart ailments. Somehow he managed that smile and a few bad jokes along the way to get himself through it all. I usually knew that he was doing okay when we'd have the following exchange: Me, "How are you feeling?" Dad, "Oh, with my hands."
Dad passed on Pearl Harbor Day, December, 7, 2007-- in some ways very appropriate for the proud WWII veteran that Ralph was. He and my mom Lois are at peace, and together again.

My mother died about 11 weeks after my father, while apparently in good health, although a smoker. Lots of people told me they knew of similar cases among their family and friends. I know how you feel. It's a lot to take in less than 3 months.

hello Irene, I'm a new listener over in Rochester, NY ((sufferin' cold grad student at R.I.T. --- I got turned on to ur station a few days ago by a pal all the way over in Oklahoma of all places even tho I'm only 5 hours away from ya, how 'bout that----he listens to a show at WFMU called "The HOUND" which has a great archive of all it's old shows & after I heard some of it, I decided to checkout your current-streaming-music & sure enough, after just 1 or 2 songs, you cued-up the current 2001/Also Sprach Zarathustra from Reiner & The Chicago Orchestra doing Richard Strauss,,, GREAT music--from what might be my favorite film of all time;-).....sorry to hear ya mention your Dad's passing, but this is an incredibly good tribute to him---good job;-).....keep up the music,, I'll keep u folks bookmarked on my computer & listen some more, happy holidays-- peace,, Rob ( (btw---yall should check out our station WITR, a pal of mine does a show there, it's VERY good for a college-indie-station & I think they also stream some of their stuff, but if they don't, they still have a website if you just google the call-letters or our school or whatever...peace out.)).

Mono is the best! I have burned stereo recordings to CD, converting the stereo mix to mono in the process.

I tuned in to your windblown tunes show (week before last) via the web. It reminded me how your show had turned me on to WFMU almost 10 years ago, the best musical input in my life here without decent radio or record stores. Thanks and very sorry about your loss.
