Live performance and chat with Elizabeth and The Catapult (Danny Molad: percussion, guitar; Pete Lalish: guitar; Elizabeth Ziman: vocals, piano; Kimi Mongello trumpet; Matt Wigton: bass) |
||||
|
Born-romantic Elizabeth Zinman wrote her first song at age six, banging out melodies on an old upright in a Greenwhich Village laundry room. Elizabeth melds equal parts Debussy-styled melodies with a Beatle-istic sensibilty for Baroque pop delivered in her sultry voice. She hooked up with multi-instrumentalist Dan Molad and the other members of the Catapult whose unique collection of skills add a jazzy tone to the music. They played live in the studio, while a new Elizabeth and The Catapult album is in the works. |

Dan:
This has been a great show. It's sort of subdued and meditative and seems to fit the mood on this cool, cloudy fall day perfectly. I love the piano music especially.

I agree Dan. In fact, now that I think about it, almost all of Irene's shows are "sort of subdued and meditative", which I guess is why we love her so much.

Irene, what a treat to hear these songs, you have defintely caught the mood of the day (where the previous DJ struggled with it for hours)...moody, meditative but uplifting. You remain one of the real gems of WFMU...heard about Elizabeth & the Catapult from their successful Halloween gig at Joe's Pub. Sounds g-r-o-o-v-y....

What a delightful set of playful pop-folk...curiously the only bump in the road was their Beatles cover...but hard to beat those guys at their own tunes. A Monday afternoon treat!
