Live performance and chat with Elizabeth and The Catapult (Danny Molad: percussion, guitar; Pete Lalish: guitar; Elizabeth Ziman: vocals, piano; Kimi Mongello trumpet; Matt Wigton: bass)
Born-romantic Elizabeth Zinman wrote her first song at age six, banging out melodies on an old upright in a Greenwhich Village laundry room. Elizabeth melds equal parts Debussy-styled melodies with a Beatle-istic sensibilty for Baroque pop delivered in her sultry voice. She hooked up with multi-instrumentalist Dan Molad and the other members of the Catapult whose unique collection of skills add a jazzy tone to the music. They played live in the studio, while a new Elizabeth and The Catapult album is in the works.

Ah, the Satie was a nice treat on a cold afternoon at home with the dogs on the bed.
  Mon. 11/12/07 3:49pm jonathan:

the dawn landers song sounds a bit like broadcast. or was that clare and the reasons?
  Mon. 11/12/07 3:52pm Graeme:

i love this show. I live in London and no radio over here plays stuff like this. Its cheering me up on a freezing cold evening.
  Mon. 11/12/07 4:11pm Dan:

This has been a great show. It's sort of subdued and meditative and seems to fit the mood on this cool, cloudy fall day perfectly. I love the piano music especially.
  Mon. 11/12/07 4:14pm Keith:

I agree Dan. In fact, now that I think about it, almost all of Irene's shows are "sort of subdued and meditative", which I guess is why we love her so much.
  Mon. 11/12/07 4:18pm Irene Trudel:

Aw, shucks, folks! You're gonna make me blush! But seriously, I'm glad you're enjoying the music.

  Mon. 11/12/07 4:25pm barry wilson:

Irene, what a treat to hear these songs, you have defintely caught the mood of the day (where the previous DJ struggled with it for hours)...moody, meditative but uplifting. You remain one of the real gems of WFMU...heard about Elizabeth & the Catapult from their successful Halloween gig at Joe's Pub. Sounds g-r-o-o-v-y....
  Mon. 11/12/07 4:28pm Graeme:

To my shame I had never heard of Elizabeth and The Catapults before but now i'm going to have to get their records. This is just great.
  Mon. 11/12/07 4:35pm kristina:

  Mon. 11/12/07 4:58pm barry wilson:

What a delightful set of playful pop-folk...curiously the only bump in the road was their Beatles cover...but hard to beat those guys at their own tunes. A Monday afternoon treat!
  Mon. 11/12/07 5:01pm Mike:

I heard them here first. I predict we will all hear a LOT more from them in the near future. Thanks Irene, they are GREAT!!!
