Transpacific Sound Paradise While
they were here, we recorded sessions with three of the four Danish artists:
Artsy chanteuse Laila Skovmand, Balkan-rooted accordionist Leko
Nika and
Balkan-inspired maniacs Afenginn. NYC guests included acclaimed Chinese-born
pipa player Min Xiao Fen, the Klezmatics' horn player / keyboardist (and noted collaboration-alchemist) Frank
London and Brazlian-born pianist / keyboardist Helio Alves, who has played with
everyone from Yo-Yo Ma to Paquito D'Rivera. Special
thanks to Dalia Faitelson, project co-producer with Nili
Belkind, whose band also participated in the Makor show but was not present for
this session; and engineers Bil Bowen and assistant Juan Aboites.

Global Village
Denmark / New York is an ongoing collaborative project between several world
musicky bands from Denmark and several individual musicians from New York. The Danish participants came to NYC in
January for a gig at Makor in conjunction with the annual
Arts Presenters’ conference (APAP).
