Including the R Stevie or Jenny’s audition ?
fyi / btw: I have many several K7’s(cassettes) of lo-fi mono WFMU edited (my discretion 🙄!) shows.
I believe I made a few C-90’s of the Fred Frith guest DJ shows ! (Yet i occasionally get that one mixed up with when he would guest via David Garland’s show via Columbia U radio ?!). Tony, do you recall Frith ever guesting on David Garland’s show ? Or at their “new music” time slots in the afternoons ?

@ Tony: oh Ok. Of course, the big question is how to locate them! - i attempted to take care of them all! But with cassettes, one never knows. Usually on ok quality
Maxell’s or TDK’s via an average quality tape deck.
- would be Lo-Fi, within your wheelhouse 😉.
- not to rub it in, but how the heck did you Not hold onto those Frith sessions from your WKCR show ?!!?
- I’m sure it’s a sore memory, but what happened to them ?!
Ps: I also recall having a WFMU Peter Blegvad cassette.
Or 2. Yet, may not be able to locate that either.

which Will Rigby album was that from ?
Was that Diane Lane track from the theatrical soundtrack from “Runaways” ?! (Is that where she got started !?)

  1:54pm
Erik/VermonT:

Assistance : Would anybody listening out there perhaps recall which shows Peter Blegvad or Fred Frith guested or took over DJ’ing (& when ?). Perhaps either Ken or Irwin Chusid would recall.
I remember Frith blowing us away with that “Welcome to Dreamland” Japanese various artist comp. Among DJ’ing other great stuff.
Avatar 1:57pm
Tony Coulter:

↳ Erik/VermonT @1:54
One of the times Frith guested on my KCR show he focused on Japanese music, including that comp. Could that be what you're thinking of?
  2:08pm
Jenny:

↳ Erik/VermonT @1:44
I don't remember which Rigby album. I suspect I pulled it from the stacks (I made the audition tape at the old station in E. Orange and used a lot of stuff from the library). And yes, Diane Lane was in the original cast of Runaways. Swados was teaching at NYU when I was there (long after runaways) and I was really obsessed with her. I even saw one of the very few performances of Doonesbury, the musical she wrote with Trudeau.
  2:08pm
Erik/VermonT:

Indeed … perhaps 🤔! So long ago, it’s a blur of enthusiastic memories. & I usta bounce back & forth between a few distinctive quality radio stations broadcasts ! Re Frith (ya, alotta Japanese focus: after dinner & katra turana , etc etc).
- so indeed, it may not be WFMU but your WKCR shows that I have C-90s of ?!
What about the incredible mid to later 1980s John Zorn guest DJ’ing shows ?! - you think those were more likely WKCR (not WFMU ?) Zorn flipped my wig when he played the 1st Las Vegas Grind Lp tracks. Among many wild others.

RE Zorn guest DJ shows: Zorn did that on KCR with David Garland a bunch of times. I remember one focused on exotica.

Is David Garland still doing radio ? (If so, where ?)
Is he still making / recording new music ?
Are y’all in touch.

David Garland is still making music -- and very fine music at that. More or less in a classical vein. I am still somewhat in touch with him (basically through FB).

David was kind of forced out ow WNYC in a big push to make it more bland. For a while he was doing a SPinning On Air podcast, but has mostly been making albums of improved music on an adapted guitar his son made for him . Also: pottery. davidgarland.bandcamp.com

As far as his more "classical" albums, I had this one in mind: www.discogs.com...

Or maybe not that one! There was something he did with a lot of string players.

I believe it was David Garland that got an article written about my childhood favorites Jim Copp & Ed Brown in the Atlantic Monthly. I had all the 9 albums, but they were in miserable shape. His article literally blew-up Jim Copp’s phone 📞 number. After Copp’s albums having so little distribution assistance for so many years. By the time I got around to contacting Copp (hoping to score mint copies of the albums) he was so dang cantankerous. it was a riot & a bit disconcerting to be finally talking to one of my life artist hero’s and he was barking at me. Never forget it. Thanks to David G. I scored ALL but the precious 1st “Tales” album & “fable forest” (at first rush, they Had sold-out quickly). The oeuvre Now lovingly been restored by Ted Leyhe (on CD’s).

I've always suspected the Residents were influenced by Copp & Brown.

Copp and Brown were great! When little my sons loved listening to The Gumps whenever we went on road trips.
Got to split, but will catch what I missed in the archive.
THANKS TONY for all these wonderful sounds! A great week to you and all of the crew!
