Discotech Underground is actually two...two...two shows in one!

The first half is a "Happy Hour" of sorts (because it's five o'clock somewhere, right?), spinning the kinds of sounds you might have heard at a real, authentic 1960's DISCOTECH as cool cats and swingin' chicks danced the night away in their mod threads and mini skirts to hard-driving sounds under the flashing lights! The only thing missing are the cage dancers...but we're working on it!

The second half is for when you head home after a wild night, and ease in with the heady, trippy, mind-expanding sounds of a groovy free-form UNDERGROUND rock radio station that digs deep into their library and blows your mind all over again!

One of my sisters had the same ankle tendon trouble I have. Hers actually snapped and it took a year after surgery to recover.

One of the units, a Squeezebox Touch, has newer firmware and doesn't have the problem. Logitech admits they didn't push out the newer firmware to all devices. They also admit they are no longer able to update firmware. The product line was discontinued ten years ago, so at least it's nice of them to keep the cloud service, mysqueezebox dot com, running.

The workaround -- that I came up with -- is to put the radios on Ethernet with an IOGEAR adapter with 802.11g that doesn't break.

I have a Squeezebox Touch that I used to use, would connect to my PC on my home network. Then it stopped working, couldn't figure out what to do. At that point I used it for streaming WFMU. I got a Technics CD player (SLG700) not too long ago that streams, though, so now it basically tells me the time in my living room.

I didn't have difficulty streaming the various streams WFMU has on the Squeezebox, though the search function was a bit fussy. But the Technics is much easier, and sounds better. Maybe I'll put the Squeezebox Touch up for sale one of these days.

I have a friend with profound hearing loss. I am very, very lucky that mine is intact. It was tested in an anechoic chamber by a PhD audiologist from Tufts. The test only goes up to 8 kHz, but he said I'm excellent up to that frequency. Surprising, considering the fifteen years I spent flying on business trips and the countless hours sitting in loud data centers.

I like some individual tracks off of some of those later albums, but as far as the album as a whole, not so much. "Time Waits For No One", for instance. I love that song but the rest of the album just doesn't grab me that much. I mean, Temptations covers only have so much shelf life.

CD's suffer (imo) from both being stuffed to fill the time (they don't all, but it's tempting to use the whole 70 minutes), and the continuous play, with no Side 1/2 as LPs have makes it harder to absorb (I generally focus on 1 side of an LP at a time, easier to learn it. Of course, you could do this with CD's, just start in the middle, but it's not the same...

I did, too, but being in radio you tend to think in terms of singular units because you don't normally let entire albums track through. It does disrupt your thought process if you do it long enough. I've managed to circle back to where I can absorb an entire album, side to side but it took a while.
