Tiktok’s enshittification (by Cory Doctorow, Pluralistic.net, Jan 21, 2023): “Here is how platforms die: first, they are good to their users; then they abuse their users to make things better for their business customers; finally, they abuse those business customers to claw back all the value for themselves. Then, they die.” (What I call on the show, for FCC purposes, “enfecalization.” -mark)

Interview of Cory in the New Yorker (Dec 4, 2022)

Interview of Cory in Jacobin (Nov 8, 2022)

The AI hype bubble is the new crypto hype bubble (by Cory Doctorow, Pluralistic.net, March 9, 2023): “Google and Bing are locked in an arms-race to see whose search engine can attain the speediest, most profound enshittification via chatbot, replacing links to web-pages with florid paragraphs composed by fully automated, supremely confident liars.” . . . “‘AI’ is practically purpose-built for inflating another hype-bubble, excelling as it does at producing party-tricks – plausible essays, weird images, voice impersonations.”

Dow promised to turn sneakers into playground surfaces, then dumped them in Indonesia (by Cory on Pluralistic.net, Feb 26, 2023): “Dow Chemicals plastered Singapore with ads for its sneaker recycling program, promising to turn old shoes into playground tracks. But the shoes it collected in its “recycling” bins were illegally dumped in Indonesia.”

Web apps could de-monopolize mobile devices (by Cory, Dec 13, 2022): “Mobile tech is a duopoly run by two companies – Google and Apple – with a combined market cap of $3.5 trillion. Each company uses a combination of tech, law, contract and market power to force sellers to do commerce via an app, and each one extracts a massive commission on all in-app sales – 15-30%!”

Solving the Moderator’s Trilemma with Federation (March 4, 2023): “Facebook, Twitter and other walled gardens are designed to be sticky-traps, relying on high switching costs to keep users locked within their garden walls which are really prison walls. Internal memos from the companies reveal that this strategy is deliberate, designed to keep users from defecting even as the service degrades. By contrast, the Fediverse is designed for ease of exit.”

Actually we hit the station fundraising goal a few hours earlier in the marathon last year, but the overall time was a few hours less this year because it started 6 AM Monday. In 2022 it started 5 PM Sunday so the regular Sun. shows would each get 2 installments during the 'thon.

First step: start getting working and middle class folks (the 99%) to get up off of their knees to stop genuflecting at the altar of CAPITALISM.
Stop worshipping the rich.
You (we) are not a temporarily embarrassed millionaire.
American media is so pervasive and persuasive with the brainwashing.
Starts there.
Got to get ordinary people to stop buying into the lie that the purpose of your whole existence is to get rich. Quickly, if possible.

I think well before. The promise used to entice labor here was always land and money, and it was also weaponized to create a racial division between workers so that they could never find common cause and both groups could be fully exploited. I'd say that that myth has been going on since the land-grab westward expansions way early in the national history.
