Charlie Gillett / Radio Ping-Pong

Hear this show now: Pop-up listen Pop-up player!

Radio Ping-Pong is a concept Charlie employs on his show whereby he and his guests take turns choosing songs, trying to find connections between their selections. Today Charlie switches to the guest's chair for a round of ping-pong with Rob.

Charlie Gillett is a longtime rock, roots and now‚ “world music” dj (Capital Radio, BBC London, BBC World Service etc.), journalist (Rolling Stone, Creem, author (the seminal pop music study The Sound of the City), label honcho (Oval Records), advertising and film music consultant (including several Hanif Kureishi films) and overall instigator, helping to break Ian Dury, Lene Lovich and Dire Straits among others)… he’s done it all.

Nowadays he hosts a weekly radio show on BBC London and, among other things, produces a great annual world music compilation. This year’s is World 2004 on Wrasse Records.

Charlie’s radio show can be heard online via: http://www.bbc.co.uk/london/insideldn/radio/on_demand.shtml.

His BBC London webpage (including info on other BBC world music shows) is http://www.bbc.co.uk/london/insideldn/radio/charlie_gillett.shtml.
