ngh, traditionally Joisey was divided into North and South Joisey, but more recently folks have been referring to my part of Joisey as "Central Joisey", but not all agree it exists. The Rahway Library is about 20 minutes drive from where I live (Westfield NJ).
I commute to work in Staten Island daily...

hey doc that "central jersey" thing seems like some uppity sociopolitical crap to me! you're north of trenton and asbury park so you're north jersey!
but i guess the young capitalists want to distance themselves from what they perceive as backwoods north of morristown.

↳ coelacanth∅ @2:32
Hey Coela!
Not sure what motivated the push to call this area Central Jersey. I know realtors in Brooklyn constantly "adjust" boundries of neighborhoods to try to up their appeal/value.
It seems that separating from Northern Jersey would do the opposite, though, all the most "desirable" (read expensive) areas are North Jersey.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm

is northern jersey more expensive now? man we used to find crazy cheap apartments/houses in dover and newton and even northern morristown.

Bob Brookmeyer is the only player I know who only played valve trombone (though I'm sure my knowledge here is not definitive).
Steven Bernstein is the only trumpeter I know of that plays a slide trumpet.
I'd say the sound here is more trombone as well, but it is a tiny bit different, "smoother", for lack of a better description, which is similar to the relationship of flugelhorn to trumpet...

As you note, there isn't a one-size-fits-all way to categorize North or South Jersey, it's so many little towns, and they can vary one to the next.
Speaking for myself, I don't really relate my home to, say, Englewood (which I'd consider North), or the Shore (south).

I'm with you there, Dean (High Schoolers are at another level of ability compared to elementary school kids; my older daughter started musical theater in the high school program, which was very well supported in our town).
(they had some very talented kids, some of whom are in theater now).
  4:31pm
Dean:

True, high school means a modicum of individual autonomy. My high school theater department included a number of supremely talented thespians. Like yours, some are in theater. Musically, I knew the orchestra's first violin--he played the fiddler in the eponymous musical--and went on to play with a number of professional orchestras and Hollywood ensembles. He now makes his living composing soundtracks. I remember working with him at the public library when we were in high school. He introduced me to early music--Byrd, Dowland--and confessed that he couldn't stand Mozart, whom I didn't dislike. Over the years I've come to really love Mozart. He's not all, as my friend put it, "wedding cake music."
