Celebrating Mr. Gardner Post this episode. I'm sure you've all heard the sad news. Did anyone get a chance to see Emergency Broadcast Network live? Or see EBN's video segments at a U2 concert, perhaps? I did not... Only ever seen their video work on my computer screen. Big fan, though.

BTW-I did hear hip-hop from classmates who went to block parties in the Bronx and Mount Vernon. They would play tapes on boomboxes in the hallways of our high school. And they would rap to tracks. I graduated high school in 1981.

The late WFMU dj, Frank Balesteri aka The Vanilla Bean worked doing P.R. for Mark Stewart, Tackhead, and Adrian Sherwood in the 80s. Wish we had more of Frank's shows in the archives. We were in the process of transferring a lot of tapes he left of his shows after he passed away in 2001.
