When I read that Bacharach wrote his melodies out without time signatures and then worked arrangements to fit everything made way more sense.

This album I guess started as a kind of follow up to the Slapp Happy/Henry Cow Desperate Straights but ended up revealing a rift in Cow that Cutler and Frith wanted to do songs while every one else wanted to concentrate on long form compositions and....Art Bears became a thing
