I saw Strawberry Fields in 2009 at BB King's. My impression of them: why not just play the music? I could do without the wigs and schtick, and most especially I could do without the backing track of the orchestral instruments.

I'm gonna jump in here and say that I think the Nuggets liners are wrong regarding "Knock Knock". I've compared my copy against Gants & Canned Heat 45s in which I DO know which was the A-side. The small number underneath the catalog number on the right side of the label is one digit lower on the A-side compared to B-side. "Knock Knock" is
listed as LB-2411 and "Tip-Toe" listed as LB-2412.

I love that about Paul, and it also applies to his bass sounds. He uses tones that are unorthodox, and techniques that really make the bass sound different, fitting the bass into the arrangement. The idea that there's a single perfect bass tone is silly.

Interesting. Of course Paul spoke of how you can hear that Live @ their huge shows during the Mania - they do everything super fast without even being aware of it from pure adrenaline. Barely been in a band & played out - like, @ all ...& our drummer did exactly that. From distaste maybe just as much ...if not ADHD & Aderol... Course the early Beatles were pillheads too...

You know what really surprised me about the Rubin McCartney documentary? How Paul tried to diminish how much time he spent on composing, perfecting, and re-recording his bass parts. In the documentary, Rubin asks him a few times "how long did it take to get that part right?" and McCartney is like "I dunno, 15 minutes?" [Disclaimer: I watched the documentary while holding a newborn in the middle of the night, it's possible I hallucinated that this documentary even exists]

That's another thing I'm thinking about after seeing that music of the Rubin-Paul thing. Paul's narratives change as much as our own about it all as time goes by ! Kind of. Along with them - in a way. He's more charming in being coy than MickJagger who is transparently self-serving in what he lets out. TheBeatles played the Press & PR from the beginning. They're only Bigger Than Elvis, after all...

With all those folks, I trust whichever narrative is told closest to the actual event. Memories can be faulty under normal circumstances, never mind when you're maintaining the legend of the one of the greatest cultural phenomena of the 20th century.

...in other words ...*another* aspect of ♊︎Gemini 'versatility'...Paul was always the Charmer to John's truth bombs. What's interesting is seeing even Rick Rubin negotiate that. Mostly - he just goes 'Wow'. As one would with McCartney in your face telling you how he does this or that sitting @ piano. It was kind of a blend of the Stock Narratives & Anecdotes ...with samplings of a Little Bit More along the way. Riveting, in other words...

I was just reading an article about memory, which had this great quote: "Our shifting memories aren’t necessarily inaccurate; rather, they are assembled from partial sets of details, and the exact details we remember change each time we dust a memory off."

Speaking of historians, Lewisohn said that his biggest problems between writing Volume 1 and Volume 2 is that for the first he had to dig and dig to research four unknowns, and for the second he has to cull and cull to research four of the most famous people in the world.
