Already Tuesday, again? And Tuesday is almost over already? Days and Daze. Glad I have this program to listen to mark the passage of the next two hours.

Food Stamp Biues too?
Avatar 🥁 10:08pm
Kris Holmes:

I left it in the box but now wishing I'd grabbed it hold up
Avatar 🥁 10:09pm
Kris Holmes:

let me run to the back room & get it
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:12pm
WR:

I used to have Food Stamp Blues, haven't heard it for so long, not sure how it sounds. Thanks for the featurette. Though he kept recording through the years, still seems to me he was under recorded.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm
Matt from New Orleans:

The Modern & Ron sides are solid too. He definitely was underappreciated.
Avatar 🥁 10:16pm
Kris Holmes:

Ron stuff is incredible
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm
Matt from New Orleans:

He also has the one Sly Dell 45 on Flame
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Did you play Ray Sharpe last week but filed incorrectly so it went before this one?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Or was that a different Ray Sharp?
Avatar 🥁 10:24pm
WLSClark:

Our local Lincoln band the Coachmen did this as a 45 A side in 66.
Avatar 🥁 10:24pm
Kris Holmes:

I think it's a different guy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm

Evening Clark

WR:

Hi WLSClark.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm
Matt from New Orleans:

He is credited as Ray Sharp without the e on a few 45s so that’s why I asked
Avatar 🥁 10:27pm
WLSClark:

Hi Kris, WR, Matt!! Candy is living the life in hawaii!
Avatar 🥁 10:27pm
Kris Holmes:

Definitely a different Ray Sharp(e)
Avatar 🥁 10:29pm
Kris Holmes:

Hi Clark, yep, we tried to catch up with Candy on Saturday night but it was all a bit too busy unfortunately
Avatar 🥁 10:30pm

↳ Kris Holmes @10:29
Im sure she's feelin jet lag for a day or two.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Love Marlena! Saw her at The North Sea Jazz Fest back in the late 90s. Left my two friends in Amsterdam as I took the train to The Hague and then met back up with the next day. Think I just smoked weed all night at a coffee shop after and then jumped on the first train back. 😂
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm
Matt from New Orleans:

There wasn’t much open in The Hague late at night in the city center at that time
Avatar 🥁 10:35pm
WLSClark:

Well, Republicans likely not happy tonight with Prez. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm

It’s good you teach music 😂
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm

Classic tune!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:39pm
WR:

you paid that much or that is the current going price!?!
Avatar 🥁 10:40pm
Kris Holmes:

Wait was my math way off? $1000 divided by 120seconds? $8 a second?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:40pm
JtotheK:

hi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
Matt from New Orleans:

It’s 109 seconds sir so about $10 a second
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm
Matt from New Orleans:

There’s plenty of reissues WR but a VG+ or better copy would definitely go for over $1000
Avatar 🥁 10:42pm
Kris Holmes:

Lol, I rounded up, label says 1.49?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:42pm
JtotheK:

↳ Song: "It's Your Voodoo Working" by "Charles Sheffield"
A particular favorite record procurement story of mine is this Chas Sheffield 45. Local shop turned one up (an original) and said they'd sell to me for "under 10 dollars" once they found it among the other 45s to be processed.
Avatar 🥁 10:43pm
Kris Holmes:

Did they find it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Hope they found it for you Jason eventually
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:44pm
JtotheK:

↳ JtotheK @10:42
Sometime went by, maybe a few weeks - and sure enough - they found it! And sold to me for under 10 dollars. It was around my birthday so quite a find!
b/w
The catch! There is a chip in the 45, on the edge - but only in the "run-in" groove, so it plays like a champ!
Avatar 🥁 10:45pm
Kris Holmes:

Awesome result!
Avatar 🥁 10:46pm
Kris Holmes:

Also, no way I'm paying $1000
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:49pm
JtotheK:

What's your take Kris on "record futures"? IE - the 4 figure Northern Soul, Funk, Sweet Soul 45s ... will these values have staying power? Or are we looking at a "crash" of sorts, similar to the doowop market? (Or at least what I know of about that marker from anecdotal comments from people who sell records.)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:51pm
JtotheK:

Oh - and thank you for the HPB check in! I was thinking of visiting local HPB and your comments don't exactly fill me with confidence that the record bins will be rewarding.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Gonna come down to see Dead & Co at Jazz Fest?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Sorry. I’m all confused about the screens. 🤦‍♂️
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:07pm

Matt from New Orleans:

She doesn’t sound Dutch
Avatar 🥁 11:14pm
Kris Holmes:

She does not
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm
Matt from New Orleans:

That’s a snake song I can get behind unlike one other
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I really don’t get how people in the Northern part of England could want to hear that Al Wilson song over and over but apparently they did
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Please don’t play that when we finally get to Al’s section
Avatar 🥁 11:22pm
Kris Holmes:

Ha, I have a couple other Al Wilson alternatives
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Oddly Trump became obsessed with the song when he was running back in 2016 and used it as an anti-immigration gimmick but it was based on a complete misunderstanding of the song which isn’t surprising TBH
Avatar 🥁 11:31pm
Kris Holmes:

That was weird, I remember
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:33pm
JtotheK:

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Kris! The topic has been on my mind, especially as we get to the point where some of these records are now 60-70 years old, and beyond. Will the next generation(s) of record collectors be into it - or will their interests be in records a few decades later?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:36pm
JtotheK:

And then I think about 78s, and how there is still a big interest in very specific eras of music on 78 on very specific labels. Or how jazz records from the 50s remain very much in demand, and it's not like all the sudden 50s Blue Note records are easily attainable.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:38pm
WR:

↳ Song: "Let The Good Times Roll" by "Bunny Sigler"
LOL, clever choice vs. the earlier Shirley & Lee.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Rocking’ Sidney is misfiled. His last name is Simien but otherwise I’d file him under Rockin’.
Avatar 🥁 11:41pm
Kris Holmes:

Yeah I was thinking about that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42pm
Matt from New Orleans:

He does have a few 45s as Sidney Simien but most are a variation of Rockin Sidney
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm
Matt from New Orleans:

A college professor of mine sang Get A Job at Woodstock
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm
Matt from New Orleans:

With Sha Na Na who got their name from the song
Avatar 🥁 11:50pm
Kris Holmes:

wow
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm
Matt from New Orleans:

His big moment at Woodstock was singing lead on At The Hop
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52pm
Matt from New Orleans:

He’s one of the leading biblical scholars in the world now but sang in Sha Na Na as an undergrad at Columbia
Avatar 🥁 11:52pm
Kris Holmes:

that's cool
