That was a rather difficult gig. I was standing at the front of the balcony at Shepherds Bush Empire watching Patti, and then my friend Lisa dug me in the ribs and pointed out who was standing next to me. It was Kate Bush. Hi Irene and Monday Drummer streamers. I am with others commenting that I'm not familiar with most of Verlaine's recordings. I remember liking the single on Ork and then being a bit disappointed when the Television LP on Elektra came out. A couple years ago at the library I noticed a live Television recording (released as "The Blow-up") that was issued years after it was recorded. It had the fire that I had heard about but felt lacking in the Electra release. Enjoying the range of what you played for us today. And now that I'm not such a snotty punk I'm enjoying the Electra recording as well. Thank you.

zzz:

thank you Irene for the heads up on Stephen Ulrich at sultan room this weekend!
Big lazy at Barbes was my first show back indoors/at a small club after getting vaxxed and venues starting to open back up in spring/summer 2021. i was elated (but also still a bit worried) to sit at a bar and chat for a bit with folks before heading to the back room for the show! of course in hindsight omicron was yet to come, and the pandemic was far from over... but that night really sticks out as a wonderful memory.

Nice memory, zzz! I have a lot of fond memories of that place too. Thanks, was mistaken about the venue. Stephen Ulrich's show takes place at The Sultan Room in Brooklyn. dice.fm...

Haven't been to Barbes in a while because of the overcrowded nature of the place. I think most of their shows are are streamed as well.

Tom, Sparks, and now Bjork. This show is way better than the local team making it to the Super Ball.

The cost of living here is way better than Chicago. Beware figures about average and median rents. A LOT of the city is a wasteland, without important conveniences (supermarkets, e.g.) closeby, but that is slowly changing. And public transport is ubiquitous and busy. Makes short work of having to live in an overcrowded center. But make sure you don't get yourself into a location which will have you dragging your groceries home on the bus.

I think the tight packed crowd at Barnes would make me nervous as well (and I hate standing shows-they do have a small number of fold out seats, but most people wind up standing in the back.

Weird typo. The Barnes is a world-famous art collection in Philly. Thought you were talking to Kat so it took a minute to figure out what you were talking about.

Well, you won't be commuting to work, so that's good. Opens up possibilities. I'm spoiled, living two blocks from two (very) different supermarkets. Fishtown (a real neighborhood) has been "up and coming" for as long as I can remember, but they only got a supermarket in the last 5 years.

Fishtown looks cute and friend here recommended, but italso doesn't have a hell of a lot of apt listings

Aww, you're all so sweet. I just love stringed instruments, guitars especially. Thanks for listening in and enjoying! It's just about that time for me to head into the ether. C'mon back next Monday at noon for more. Meanwhile, enjoy the stream until Global Grease goes live at 7pm. Thanks again!
