Why are blue jays so nasty? I'm currently watching them chase all the other birds and squirrels away from the bird feed on the patio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm
Handy Haversack:

LWR: Bluejays are often bullied off of feeders by cardinals and even sparrows. They mostly chase others away by imitating a hawk or something similar so they can swoop in a get a few mouthfuls before the sparrows all return. ALSO! They can carry up to five acorns in their cheek pouches! Amazing creatures. Up to 300 different vocalizations. But they are definitely not the bullies they are made out to be. Just clever.

My sparrow army takes no crap from the jays. They scatter for about thirty seconds for each hawk imitation and then swarm! swarm! swarm!
