Sean Patrick Maloney is such a complete and total jackass. He pushed (or "bigfooted", which I didn't know could be used as a verb until this happened) a more progressive representative, Mondaire Jones, out of his seat and then lost the seat in a blue district. Of course Jones came down here to NY-10 and screwed up *our* primary race too. Lots of blame should also go to Jay Jacobs, the hateful and corrupt Chair of the NY State Democratic Committee, who, like SPM, cares more about fighting progressive Dems than fighting Republicans.

Maloney wasted no time blaming AOC for his loss. Not sure how he think that works

The corruption of the state-level Dem leadership is reflected in the official Brooklyn Dem Party as well -- focusing all their efforts on grifting and fighting Democratic reform groups instead of fighting Republicans in southern Brooklyn. As a result, we lost seats in southern Brooklyn that could've been won.

Hi Brian, Chris, fred, String, Ike, Michael (and any silent listeners). joining late because I just got up after getting back at 4 am from a gig in Helsinki. I lived in ireland for a while and hell yeah, don't say the word Londonderry to anyone in the Republic of Ireland.

I can relate @Feral. She was far too young. And, I can't imagine losing one's life partner...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30am

@Ike: I saw this play out here too. They feel more threatened by progressives than by the right, which makes sense on several levels. So they withhold support at best, a passive-aggressive path to losing
Avatar 4:35am
Don in Tampere:

Heidee, the band is Dark Bottle, sort of punk-Americana but with elements of krautrock and stoner and doom metal instead of the usual Muddy Roots stuff of heavily tattooed and pierced people playing folks songs fast and badly; sometimes we call it doombilly or krautbilly. Solo I do different stuff and am close to finishing a new remix album called "Banjo Machine Music!

@Don: You mean you have neither tattoos or piercings? Anyway, when are you playing in Paris or nearby?
Avatar 4:43am
Don in Tampere:

Hi Fred, nope, never got either one and figure that at my advanced age there is no need to start. I'd love to play Paris if we could get a gig there and somewhere on the way from Germany, where we're going next August, but I have absoutely zero contacts there.
Avatar 4:46am
Heidee:

@Don, sounds great stuff! 😎🤟😈 Which places in Germany are you touring? Have you got a link?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49am
fred:

@Don: The scene is bleak: there are few venues between a bar's basement and a 2000+ hall (a long-time issue made worse by the pandemic). Bar shows only make sense if it's a stop on the way, little money there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51am
Ike:

@fred, in Europe at least the centrists have the excuse that those are different parties (right?) although I’m sure that doesn’t make it truly feel any better on the ground there. Here, we’re all ostensibly together in the Democratic party. Some states certainly have functional D parties and others… not so much. Some have joked the NY Dems need to placed into receivership and operated by the Michigan Dems from now on.
Avatar 4:54am
Don in Tampere:

Heidee, so far we have dates in Bielefeld, Offenbach and Bamberg but working on more. Here's our bandcamp page darkbottle.bandcamp.com... We are also on IG and FB
Avatar 4:56am

@Don, That's great, will be looking out for you! Offenbach is closest to me (Heidelberg) so far, but do let me know if your tour dates around here will expand. :-)
Avatar 4:57am
Don in Tampere:

the party landscape varies from country to country. I would say the social democrats in Finland are probably more progressive than their namesakes in Germany (and of course those "wacko radical left" policies progressive American Democrats want are to a large extent things that would count as moderately social democratic or would not even be questioned by conservatives, such as free education and public health care.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59am
fred:

@Ike: Different system for sure, parties come and go. Here the "socialist" party went the way you describe into a sudden collapse. Not applicable in the US. So we have a center-right party, a growing fascist one, and a populist ego-cult on the left with little staying power. Scary situation. Grassroots progressives abound, but they are ignored by the media and weakened by (surprise) bitter infighting
Avatar 5:00am
Don in Tampere:

While the Vasemmistoliitto (left alliance) is my preferred party in Finland for local elections, where I can vote, but Die Linke in Germany(where I've been a citizen since 2007) is out of the question for me as long as they have populists like Sahra Wagenkneckt who are sometimes hard to tell from AfD in their rhetoric.
Heidee, Heidelberg/MannheimLudwigshafen would be awesome but so far no luck, and I don't know the current venue scene. I am going to try to get into the Krone in Darmstadt, which is a little closer than Offenbach. (I lived in Franfurt/M for 24 years, by the way)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03am
fred:

@Don: thanks for the link, I'll give it a listen and see if I know someone who could help setting up a gig (unlikely though)
Avatar 5:03am
Heidee:

@Don, wow you were living here for such a long time? You must be fluent in Deutsch. Where are you located now, actually back in Tampere? - Krone in DA is a nice venue, BTW.
  5:05am
Chris Crisco:

Have to say I'm surprised the red wave fizzled out. Dems showed a will to lose throughout. How the Nazi Party even managed to hijack the term "woke" and re-brand it as anti-white, anti-straight, anti-Christian, anti-American is nothing short of mind boggling. Fortunately enough voters wised up that saving Democracy was more important than giving Elon Muskrat a tax cut. I think Bernie Sanders was an unsung hero going around the country campaigning.

I really appreciate the Low's songs interspersed with other ambiant/field recordings/electronic/ improvised musics. Such a great idea! Wonderful tribute ! You're the third WFMU dj to pay a substantial tribute to Mimi Parker after Joe Belock and Mary Wing, yours is my favorite one. (I was sure you were going to do it!). Your show is quite touching. Thank you Brian!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17am
Ike:

@chris, the cons also had mind-boggling success on a regional level here in the NYC area blowing isolated gruesome incidents of crime way out of proportion. I call it the Great Fake Republican Crime Wave of ‘22. People in the burbs and southern Brooklyn are absolutely convinced that NYC is a burning post-apocalyptic hellscape of roving cannibalistic mutant homeless people with terrible BO. Sadly the COVID-related hate crimes against Asian-Americans have pushed a lot of them towards the R party as well, as some are now terrified to go out after dark, and some are falling prey to R conspiracy theories going around in Chinese.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24am
fred:

@Ike: We have that here too, fantasies of Islamic states with heavily armed drug dealers enforcing Sharia law (making sense is optional). Seriously I saw a newspaper headline yesterday that ran "Drugs, Islam, Kalash". Then they mention neighborhoods I go through at night with no worries (there are tough ones I avoid, but that's a very different story, about poverty and neglect)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24am
Brian D:

@Ike, I'm thinking most of these people fretting about "crime" weren't around in the 1970s. Or even the 1990s.

Michael, I always thought Music Hall was more for better known bands (which we certainly aren't) but I see that the site also says "ob Newcomer". As long as that hasn't started meaning "new car" the way "Oldtimer" means "classic car", it might be an option after all. I'll PM from the chat here if it's ok with you (Heidee, you too) and we can talk about possible places without boring everybody here

Actually, any Christian who pays any attention to what Jesus was actually talking about would have no use for the Nazi party or for most of what passes for conservative politics these days.

The cops were actually the worst. I got robbed right after christmas one year, they took a CD player, but since they were not cops I asked to get the CD inside and I got it.
