Hello, all! Today's playlist pic is an untitled piece by New Zealand artist Susan Te Kahurangi King. It's from somewhere between 1965 and 1975.

Rich in Washington:

what's all this then?
Avatar 12:26pm
Tony Coulter:

Richie Rich! Heya!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm
Rich in Washington:

@rw: I bought The Residents Satisfaction 7" from their catalog as a teen without hearing a single note of what they sounded like. It literally fucked me up for 'normal' music forever.
Years later I had the fortune of telling that to Homer Flynn.
Avatar 12:30pm
Tony Coulter:

"Meet the Residents" had a similar effect on me as a teen -- although Beefheart had already bent my mind quite a bit by then.
Avatar 12:30pm
Tony Coulter:

I have the nagging feeling that I've used today's playlist image before. Could it be?
  12:32pm
rw:

Rich, that's cool. I kinda miss those days. Not sure if teenagers have those sorts of opportunities any more. Or maybe I'm just an old fart.
  12:36pm
rw:

Rich, my Residents story is similar, I had taped Satisfaction off the radio and brought my friend Jim into the high school darkroom to play it for him. The darkroom was totally normal for me but I guess for him it was a pretty surreal experience going in there for the first time and hearing The Residents.

In return he introduced me to the music of Steve Reich.
  12:41pm
rw:

Speaking of crazy surreal, this Dieter Kaufmann.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm
Rich in Washington:

My teenage experience of trying to share the Residents via cassette ended with me never being allowed to play music on friend's car stereos ever again.

The title of this piece -- "Symphonie pour un Enfant Seul" -- is clearly a nod to Pierre Schaeffer & Pierre Henry's "Symphonie pour un Homme Seul," which is from 1950 and was probably the first large-scale piece of electroacoustic music.
