Years back an artist erected a metal armature and hung prayer flags on it. Now it's a cormorant and gull (but mainly cormorant) nesting spot. There's a little eddy there where you can tuck in a couple of canoes out of the current and watch them, which is really fantastic during fledgling season. Maybe I can find some pix ...

There's a section of Smith Island where they are sharing nesting space with brown pelicans that is now overrun and quite gross from what I understand

The birds are still fishing, mid-October. The indigenous people, translated from their language, call here The Place of Bountiful Fish. Phillippe: the flocks kill the trees they nest in, having no cormorant-friendly port-a-pottys.

	🛎 ♥ 12:51pm Handy Haversack: Sem, I don't have any my photos online, but there's an "island" in the East River, U Thant, which is made of rubble from digging the Queens-Midtown Tunnel. Years back an artist erected a metal armature and hung prayer flags on it. Now it's a cormorant and gull (but mainly cormorant) nesting spot. There's a little eddy there where you can tuck in a couple of canoes out of the current and watch them, which is really fantastic during fledgling season. Maybe I can find some pix ...

There's a section of Smith Island where they are sharing nesting space with brown pelicans that is now overrun and quite gross from what I understand

The birds are still fishing, mid-October. The indigenous people, translated from their language, call here The Place of Bountiful Fish. Phillippe: the flocks kill the trees they nest in, having no cormorant-friendly port-a-pottys.
