Exuberant modernism with peanut butter on an English muffin.

Jeff, I think Heiner Stadler is the official leader of this disc. He arranged all the music for these large bands, and, as you can hear, they are *very* arranged. Well, I filed mine under S, anyway.

DJpeterDE:

@Jeff, my reticence is more about my deep love of Misha Mengelberg, and feeling his absence. But that record really captured the spirit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am
Jeff Golick:

Yeah, that's probably correct, @LG. Hang on a sec.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 11:32am
DJpeterDE:

Like @LG, I filed this under S. But I only listened to it because of Thad Jones!

Franco Twinkie:

Jeff just consider this: I heard it on good authority that Anthony Lane doesn't put the cap back on the toothpaste.

adamdoesit:

Jeff, agree. Lately I get the impressiont that Lane likes his jokes better than he likes the movies that occasion them. Second-stringers A.O. Scott and Richard Brody ftw.

And now Franco reveals Lane's a legit monster.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am
Jeff Golick:

@adamdoesit: I don't really understand why Brody is relegated to the web version of the mag only (except for little capsule reviews in the front section).

@Franco: nuff said.

I'm honestly not sure how successful a record this Tribute is, ultimately. But it's interesting.

Jeff ..I Love your show man...thanks for showing people there's more than Kenny G

Yes, I think of this record as a weird "third stream" album that is unmoored in time. Breaking down barriers that were dismantled long ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am

Oh yeah, thanks, @b0b 0b0b0b plasticland! Glad you are here.

Making a point about Monk & Bird as precedents of PostBop Jazz maybe ...I'd never think of them just listening - but I like it fine...

There's more than Kenny G, for sure, but in the end it all comes back to him.

What is Kenny G? We're all Kenny G.
(that's an obscure reference to a recent episode of "Atlanta" which I didn't understand.)

Shoo fly, dragon fly, get back to your mother
Pick up a flat rock, skip it across Green River"

is REALLY hard to sing
