Merrily We Roll Along is a mish-mash of high energy lunacy, reverence, and irreverence for forgotten pop stars, love for Saturday morning cartoons, and exploration of the side of Bandcamp where I seem to be the only one purchasing. Bringing to you the odd and the upbeat from a growing collection of pre-rock novelties, classic and neo-Vaudeville, jug bands, polka, klezmer, and more at the convenient hour of 8-9 AM EST, Merrily We Roll Along starts the day off with a little light-hearted musical tomfoolery cut with an occasional comedy sketch. It's organic, free-range, cheese with the occasional onion thrown in.

There were five golden albums pressed on this. As far as I know they haven't been found. They guarantee free Primus tickets and Les tickets for life

I'd love to find the Golden ticket. I just don't want 80 copies of it. There's a stereophonic version that was nominated for a grammy.

Tiny Tim used to have these fascinating/pathetic interviews on Howard Stern, where he'd describe in toe-curling detail such subject as his impotency, and reviews of various cleaners he was obsessed with. One of those guys who had to wash his hands all day.,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
Kat in Chicago:

Yeah I remember him talking about wearing diapers once
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
MHLee:

He's a weird and complicated character. I've read his biography.
  8:24pm
Robm:

@scott67 when are you going to be on WFMU again?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm
MHLee:

@kat apparently he didn't trust underwear because he didn't think you could get it clean... so the diapers were throw-away underwear
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm
Kat in Chicago:

Good question Robm. That Drop-In was fantastic

  8:27pm
Robm:

@Kat yes it was, are you ever going to do a drop in, or would your radio station have a fit about it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm
MHLee:

He also had a huge 78 collection. Archived a ton of stuff. I often use the originals of songs I have him singing to fill out my MWRA shows.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm
Scott67:

Robm, Terre asked me to do another Drop-In Show, to keep as a backup for any DJ dropouts. I must get my shit together & do it. The Schedule is booked out for rest of 2022.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm

Me? It wouldn't be a problem with WLUW. I have been meaning to propose a Radio Row to Olivia, but I have been lazy
Avatar 8:28pm

Robin on the Stern show said she was happy to hear that he died. Not because she disliked him, but because he seemed tortured by all his obsessions/compulsions. A prisoner to them. At last he found peace.

i used to drive around with a princess phone (push button though) in my car beause i liked how it looked...

my good friend had a payphone he stole in his bedroom
Avatar 9:59pm

he had it working without coins, of course

there's a payphone on the other side of the bridge I walk across every day.

Speaking of sending away for music 'sight' unseen...
I kept reading about The Residents and finally sent away for their Buy or Die mail order catalog and randomly chose a few records and it completely fucked me up for normal music forever.

They made loops by bending a wire hanger and making it hit against the stylus at a desired place. High tech!

Yeah, they advertised in lots of magazines. I remember an ad in the back of Rolling Stone that finally did it for me. I think I still have some old Buy or Dies in my flat files.

We had a similar marching outfit in Portland called the March Fourth Band (I think they originally formed for a protest). They're pretty groovy.

You can thank the NightFlight show for heppin me to the Residents c.1982. They did a mini-doc about em and showed the “Constantinople” video.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm

I couldn't figure out whether Russolo got caught up in the fascist party. I know the Russian futurists mostly avoided that... but Zang tang thum or whatever that song was called... that guy surely did get into it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm
MHLee:

The Futurist Cookbook is also worth seeing just as a curiosity piece. Folks at vice tried to cook from it a few years back... weird food
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm

Italian Futurism was specifically about speed, dynamism, the replacement of men by machines, and death. Oddly, the art that expressed it was often beautiful

@StringOfPearls Oddly the industrial culture handbook could certainly be read to be about the same stuff... but I don't think most of them celebrated that... unlike the Italians

I think industrial... at least good industrial brings awareness of the condition of dehumanization we exist in... the situation one might say.

There's a hypnotic quality to the beats on this stuff. I wish rivetheads were more about these days.

Strong religious themes in this episode-eh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm

Provocative as it's supposed to be. A product of a time when dialogue descends into violence. It's a suffocated scream.

Waters has some tracks in his solo career that stand out too. He's got a wit. I particularly like the line in Two Suns in the Sunset (about nuclear holocaust) "looks like the human race is run". That pun takes the (yellow) cake.
