@doctorjazz—Yeah, there’s that photo of the soldier kissing the nurse in Times Square on V-J Day. The Holocaust ended in 1945, too. Not such a good year for folks in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, though.

First time I saw Pharoah was at the Village Vanguard a hundred years ago. I sat at a table right in front of the stage. Not only was the power of his playing a force of nature that almost blew me away, but his eyes went somewhere and all you saw was white set against his very dark skin. It was awe inspiring!
