WR:

My work is systems that record telephone conversations, used to be call centers ("your call may be recorded for quality assurance") but now assigned to bankers / traders. On the weekend the system sometime is hit with internal security test probes and we have to check that the system works ok after the probes. Besides our test calls we check on actual customer calls. These days there is rarely anyone actually working on the weekend so all the calls are either spam or wrong numbers. So for the last hour, I've been listening to Chinese language spam or "sorry, the person you've dialled is not available" along with what you are streaming. i could have recorded the sounds in my home office to catch the full affect.
  3:53pm
Mr. Oxford:

Went to the Saturn and the Sun Bandcamp and saw the following: "Released as iDEAL130 as an acetate 7" in a stupidly limited edition of 20 copies."

I was just watching yesterday a recent video of Henry Rollins (of Black Flag) explaining how Vinyl pressing is dominated by major labels. And independent labels/artists just can press only limited numbers :(
  3:54pm
Mr. Oxford:

The last three tracks (including current one) have been wonderful.
Avatar 3:54pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

@WR, you paint a complex picture, I feel like I'm really there with you but if you do record it I'd love to hear :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm
WR:

Mr Oxford, LOL with a :( sad face.
  3:56pm
Mr. Oxford:

@WR you should record the sounds.
Avatar 3:57pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

@Mr. Oxford, yeah, sounds like a small number but I think it was repressed?
Avatar 3:58pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

repressed on Stellage records in 2020 and in 2022
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm
Dave in Vermont:

i'm also repressed- Catholic upbringing and all
  4:00pm
Mr. Oxford:

@Jesse, oh that's good. On the Bandcamp link provided it had the statement which I quoted about 20 copies. But I think that must have been the iDEAL Recordings label only.
  4:01pm
Mr. Oxford:

@Dave in Vermont hahahaha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm
WR:

OK, a will send you a clip. Even included my voice on a test call. I avoided anything with personal info. Don't know how other people will hear it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm
WR:

Meaning, I don't what other people will hear in it.
  4:14pm
Mr. Oxford:

@WR oh I initially thought the telephone sounds were automated sounds. If those are sounds made by real people or speaking sounds...I'm not sure if you can record them. I think depends on the region/country you live in and the regulations etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm
WR:

Yes, there are regulations about recording and they vary by country and in the USA by state. The callers either hear a recording (this call will be recorded) of the phone numbers are not public (bankers/traders) and anyone using those lines know they are recorded as required by government regulations. Of course wrong numbers and spam calls are clueless. Also there is a beep every few seconds to alert/remind the callers that the call is being recorded.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm
WR:

One company I worked with, the users did not want to hear the beeps, so the people instead answered by saying, "Hello, this is a recorded line, this is "their name". On some phone systems the beeps are not captured on the recording, and only the caller from outside the company hears the beeps, and now I've gone way beyond what anyone else might be interested to know about this stuff.

Jesse Kaminsky:

I'm fascinated. I've played a couple of these tapes before, they're super interesting if into old phone stuff: www.evan-doorbell.com

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm
Dave in Vermont:

yeah, maybe that's what i'm thinking of
  4:52pm
Mr. Oxford:

Perhaps this is my naivety as I was not familiar with Neighbors Noise until I heard it last Saturday, but I really love how last week's and today's program started out with sound/noise art pieces but end in rhythmic dance pieces.

@Jesse, I will definitely go back to archives to listen to old shows of Neighbors Noise. I also must say it is amazing how the sound pieces segue into dance pieces seamlessly. I'll listen to you next Saturday!
