Mic break between Sets 1 & 2. Background music for it: (Listen to this set: Real)
Les Chakachas  Love is like a Violin (track 4)   Arriba!  RCA International  Phat, sentimental sound. Feels like it's the slow song at the record hop.

Set 2: the old radio show portion of the evening. (Listen to this set: Real)
Dimension X  The Lost Race   from May 20, 1950  (no label)  Dimension X...the series that proved radio & science fiction could not only go together, but were ideal companions - better, in many ways, than the visual medium of TV, for sure. And Dimension X was the best - until its successor series, X-Minus One, came along in 1955.

Dimension X featured A+ production values, advanced special effects, and top level writing. Many of the episodes were adapted from stories in Astounding Science Fiction magazine, and authors included Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, Kurt Vonnegut, and Clifford Simak.

Dimension X also featured "futuristic" music.

This episode, "The Lost Race", is about a race that decides to commit mass suicide when they build a thought machine that taps into their worst fears - they see they're mutating into humans.

Dimension X was on the air from April 8, 1950 to September 29, 1951, although with frequent absences and schedule changes. All episodes have survived.

William Basinski  (no title) (track 2) (Listen: Real)   The Disintegration Loops II  Musex  Beautiful in its way, also about mental /emotional distance and memory, almost hurried in tempo - for him. It's also about the pain and suffering of 9/11.  ***
