Consider just these two things about Astronomy in our time :
1.) It was barely 100 years ago that Edwin Hubble proved that the nebulae seen in telescopes were not mere clouds of dust within our own Milky Way Galaxy
- but each Galaxies of their own of billions of stars like ours too.
In all of human history - it is only since the 1920s that we've even understood this about the dimensions of the Universe.
2.) The new James Webb Space Telescope is reportedly 100 TIMES more powerful than the Hubble Telescope - & its use has barely even begun. Yet it has reportedly already analyzed the atmosphere of a planet outside our Solar System - & confirmed the presence of Water somewhere outside our Solar System as well.

StringOFperils:

This first part of Mseleku's WIKI bio is a good story in itself: Mseleku's father was a musician and teacher, and a Cambridge University music graduate, who had religious beliefs that prevented his children from ready access to the family's upright piano in case any of them should pursue something as "devilish" as music.[3] His mother gave him the keys while his father was away, but the piano ended up as firewood one winter's evening. During his childhood, Mseleku suffered the loss of the upper joints of two fingers in his right hand from a go-karting accident.[3] He explained in a 1994 South Bank Show dedicated to him that this was wholly due to the restricted health care available to Black South Africans under Apartheid.

Back when I was still a book editor, the publisher I worked for gave me the helm of a new literary sports series. We were reissuing great sports and sports-adjacent books by non-sports writers. I was in negotiations with Paul Auster to bring back into print the baseball novel he wrote under a pseudonym (Paul Benjamin) Squeeze Play. Ultimately, he decided against it.

I saw The Mekons five or six times. The last time was at The Roxy in Hollywood. I threw caution to the wind and took a fellow who had serious mental and emotional problems. During the middle of the show he ran out of the club. I chased after him fearing the worse. He was hyperventilating on the sidewalk babbling about evil spirits in the club. I assured him everything was fine and led him back inside. I kept an eye on him, but it was tense. We made it home without incident and I never saw him again. Also, that was the last time I ever saw The Mekons.
