Hullo - !! GarySullivan is out tonight - so I *finally* get to tune in again. Was getting this as a Podcast - but I have few Commutes these days - which was my Podast time...
  8:09pm
BH:

the whole pause in the intro music was a bit odd since my stream had went into buffering a few times during the last 2 hours and I thought that it was buffering again

Been busy a couple of hours to fill in my Tour de France form with which i play in the Tourgame between two pubs in my hometown. And its difficult as every other year.

20 cyclists, sprinters, mountains, time, mountains....aaargh. But, very funny every year with about 60 players

Hi, Becky and all! I’m tuned in from atop a ladder picking service berries and battling squirrels. Appreciating the tunes!

BH:

what do the squirrels think of country music?
  8:24pm
jojo:

A squirrel invaded my fire escape bird feeder restaurant and put it out of business
  8:24pm
dano59:

I was battling squirrels for a while but I’ve learned to live with them .. since tbey’re so brazen they are more like annoying pets
  8:24pm
Andres:

Squirrels have been getting will get their fair share once we have enough to make a batch of syrup. As it happens I found a double lp mono best of George Jones at the thrift shop today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
Pauly from Clifton:

Give tribute to the squirrels. Give them peanuts. In the shell. Unsalted. They'll get fat and happy. I've been doing that for several years and they've stayed out of my veggie garden and *most* of my containers.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:25pm
ultradamno:

I would think squirrels would identify country music as the sound of their natural predators
Avatar 8:26pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...that's a point ...I was thinking - Regional affinity...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm
Dave the Spazz:

Only thing better than a George Jones song is two George Jones songs
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:27pm
PigeonsAndRust:

I recently was lucky to find George Jones on 78. I know he was on Starday but I found him as "Thumper Jones" on the Dixie budget label, one of those which had 3 songs per 10" 78 side
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm
Becky:

Hell yeah.
Avatar 8:27pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Season Two of Cocaine & Rhinestones has been all George & Tammy stuffs....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm
Becky:

Thumper Jones was his nom de plume for some early rockabilly-ish records.

PigeonsAndRust:

My neighbor got in trouble because a squirrel chewed through the kitchen window screen and ate the pineapple upside down cake his wife had made and had sitting out on the kitchen table. He had a hard time convincing her it was a squirrel until it came back in again!
Avatar 8:34pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...oh, squirrels have no problem with upside down or whats...
  8:35pm
JetBoy of Brooklyn:

Interesting thing about squirrels- they don’t just run all over willy-nilly, doing stuff all day. They have a home base that they stick to consistently. This is based on my observations of an albino squirrel who lived near my apartment in Minneapolis in the late 1990’s, which I assume are applicable to squirrels in general.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm
Pauly from Clifton:

@PigeonsAndRust That is a hilarious tale! I've seen them eat stale bread and, unfortunately, tomatoes. They did not like the tomatoes, but it did not stop them from sampling every one on the vine...bastards.
  8:36pm
P-90:

“In-depth”?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm
Becky:

I mean, I've learned more about squirrel diets and habits in the last 30 minutes than I have in the rest of my life.

Andres:

All the garbage bins in the neighbourhood (compost, recycling, waste) are riddled with holes that the squirrels have chewed. The beasts are probably not nearly as organic as one would hope if thinking of making them into a meal.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:43pm
PigeonsAndRust:

They also love plastic gas caps. Why, I don't know. It happened to me and I thought it was a freak thing but my friend who repairs lawn mowers finds it on a regular basis
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm
Pauly from Clifton:

@Andres, in certain parts of the US of A, squirrel brains are a delicacy, even though overindulgence in them causes severe neurological disease. Go figure...
  8:44pm
P-90:

Love the title “Novelty Yodel #2”
  8:48pm
dano59:

Initial research: “Don’t call us…” as a theatrical audition brushoff, 1944, via columnist Dorothy Kilgallen.
“Don’t Call Me …” was a mid-60s single by Leslie Gore; but prob. originated sooner as a popular idiom.
  8:49pm
Andres:

Pauly: Last scene from Faulkner’s short story “The Bear”, guy in a clearing with a bunch of squirrels cornered up a tree madly trying to fix his gun “They’re mine!”. Some good context with that neurological disease.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:51pm
Pauly from Clifton:

Andres, I have not read that Faulkner, but it just moved to the top of my reading list. Thanks!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:52pm
Destroit:

When i was growing up, maybe i got lucky, but squirrels were never the problem. Deer ate the garden, possums and raccoons killed chickens and laid waste to attics, fox killed hens, hawks killed hens, woodchucks destroyed shed foundations, snakes stunk up a crawl space….squirrels just ran around being adorable.
  8:52pm
JetBoy of Brooklyn:

The 1 hour sets go so fast! Thank you for another great show.
  8:53pm
dano59:

My cousin owned a bar that hosted a game dinner every year, with squirrel stew and woodchuck stew on the menu a couple times. Didn’t try either.
  8:54pm
JetBoy of Brooklyn:

@dano - was that bar in Wisconsin?
Avatar 8:54pm

Not to dis Wisconsin, but I went to college there and in one shared house, there was a squirrel in the freezer.. cleaned and ready to eat. Then someone came home drunk and took the squirrel out, which thawed, everyone was upset but who was gonna eat that, idk
