Afternoon! I had a professor in college who was a DJ at WFNX, one of the big alternative rock stations in Boston. I remember him saying that a LOT of people in the local scene were baffled when the Boston album came out, because how did this huge arena rock band just appear out of nowhere?!

I like the feeling of a good choice confirmed when I see a band I like has a new single or album, and I think, "Do I have to figure out a time to turn off WFMU and listen to it? I bet if I just wait, someone will play it in the next couple of days."

Second time today that's been rewarded! Thanks, Sheila!

@mike s.: There are at least three or four different successive prog waves, the second one coming in the mid/later 80s, etc.

@P-90. Yup. People claim proggy traits for (e.g.) Radiohead, etc etc etc. But there are still straight-up self-identifying prog bands, in a series of impulses since the 80s. And there are also prog subgenres: prog metal etc. etc.

Mark Hurst—That's the piece I read, amongst others. Maddening! Although as much as one can point fingers at the social media companies, this really is a result of the drug war and lack of government oversight.

Jazz Upholsterer:

a good friend of mine just lost his brother to fentanyl laced percasets here in California, why is it being put in perscription named drugs? i thought it was just being put in the crank, dope and coke...this is even more concerning. thanks for mentioning it ms. B. this is just the second time i've heard of it cut with percs now..
  5:25pm
Jocelyn:

One of the private carriers I work for has begun keeping the fentanyl testing strips on board all aircraft along with narcan. We’ve been carrying narcan for a few years and I’ve had to use it a few times. What was scary in each circumstance is they thought their financial and social status would prevent them from getting “bad” pills. Nope

Oddly enough yes! Weird story, I needed hair serum so I picked up my regular brand at a drugstore. It reeked of alcohol like hand sanitizer, had the gel texture and was so gross. Maybe they reformulated? No. It turns out the Paul Mitchell hair serum I bought at the popular drugstore chain WAS hand sanitizer put in Paul Mitchell bottles. The drugstore chain bought it from a 3rd party not the brand them self. So you never know what you’re getting.
