Yes, lots of cracked pepper is key! There was a polish deli fairly close by that went under recently. And, I was very sad to see it because they used SO MUCH PEPPPER in their coleslaw. If there was a way to overdose on pepper, they'd have found it.

@HYPER: If you're seeing the ones with my sidekick BOO DEPEST, then those were on public access as well as all the older stuff. I'm to understand, from the producer of the shows, some of the older episodes are on old tapes n' stuff. Difficult to transfer.

However, there is an impending dvd/bluray thang coming out at some point with a Doctor Sarcofiguy documentary on it as a bonus thang. It's on the dvd/bluray EVERY OTHER DAY IS HALLOWEEN, featuring Count Gore Devol, and childhood hero of mine.

I just love Horror Hosts. It's such a cool way to present weird old movies, and chances are, you know the weird old movie anyway, so if the host bursts in and messes with the movie, even better.

Like a lot of kids, I got sucked in though MST3K growing up. That kind of energy was what I was looking for, and soon i discovered regional horror hosts, etc.

We didn't have anyone local by the time I was coming up, so I was getting tapes and files from people I would meet online. MST3K was really my first show like that, and when I found out there were local hosts in other cities, I just started asking friends. But there was never anyone I could tune in easily.

I saw a ton of Elvira growing up, but I think a lot of people did. And I was seeking her out for... other reasons.

Hmm, I never thought of MST3K as horror hosts. I used to watch Elvira, who was the classic horror host - show part of the film, cut to the host, back and forth, etc. I thought of MST3K as satirists, like "Beavis and Butthead," and "Talk Soup," - Y'know, show clips, and make fun of 'em. Horror hosts to me were more of a theatrical presentation, not really there to ridicule. But I guess MST3K could be also considered to be in the horror-host universe.

I mostly lump them in together because where I was living, late night movies had no hosts or anything. The just showed the movie. (And if you were lucky, sometimes Elvira was there.) But it really blew my mind when you started seeing hosts that would talk about the movies, make jokes about the movies, interact with the movies... all of that just seems so cool to me.

But I think you'r right, Fab: MST3K is more satire of the format, in a way.

Actually, I started watching "The Soup" when it was still "Talk Soup," hosted by Greg Kinnear. All those terrible daytime talk shows were the original target. Joel McHale also did a great job. Loved all that stuff, smartass that I am.
