Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:21pm
Funky16Corners:

@Dreamy - I often tell my sons about the time I spent after lights out listening to all kinds of stuff on the radio, including TV broadcasts at the bottom of the FM dial
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:22pm
Funky16Corners:

@C - The level of resentment could only grow, as Whitfield's influence/contributions to their records increased
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm
Franco Twinkie:

Back in the 1980's before we lived in our house, I would drive over from Pasadena to fix all the stuff that was broken. Often I would pass by Isaac Hayes taking his girlfriend to work at the nail salon up the street. He had a blue Caddy with personal plates that said MR. HAYES. He was an expert at the 'Gangster Lean' - driving scrunched down against the door. I only saw him for a couple of years, then never again.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:24pm
Funky16Corners:

That's cool! I remember hearing at one point, Stax/Enterprise bought him a gold plated Caddy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm
coelacanth∅:

it's a shame Larry. so many amazing later cuts, not just vocal tracks but that doesn't detract from the vocals within them.
i guess the group didn't see it that way.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm

I've stopped working to give this song my full attention.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:36pm

@Dreamy - I see a ref that says it was sampled by Roc Marciano on a song called 'Raw Deal"
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:37pm

@Franco - A great, hidden masterpiece buried deep in Johnny's discography. Written by Thom Bell and Linda Creed, produced by Bell

I feel like these heavily string-orchestrated mini-suites would get channeled in turn by the Philly soul scene (as well as cats like Barry White), eventually evolving into disco’s showpiece arrangements
