YETI BOB, I really mostly love the Peter Gabriel era of Genesis. I actually saw "The Lamb" live at the Capitol Theater in Passaic, NJ. Pretty amazing.

The Wilco show was the entire Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, work some add on music as an encore. They added a string quartet (who did an opening set), and a 3 piece horn section. So glad I went (but really beat today). Tweedy doesn't sing like he used to much(but he still can).

I'm a total dance freak. I've seen many more concerts, but that's because of the price of tickets. At first I was in love with a dancer, then dance itself, then the kind of dance the original crush couldn't stand. 30 years later, I should have known better, but I have no regrets

@chresti: It's not a crush. Cynthia Loemij taught me all about dance. I saw her for most of her career, and I did learn a lot, I knew when she was about to go just by looking at her. Question for Irene - you teased the upcoming Glenn Jones album last week, but only had 1 track to play. Do they still sent promo CDs out? Private download channels? Because Nate the K. had 1 early Sonic Youth track from their eventual recent Bandcamp release.

The antique recording obsessives are concerned about the state of their grooves. Old shellac records had some grit in the mixture so that in the battle between needles and grooves, the grooves would win.

What's interesting about the optical process is that if you have 2 damaged copies of the same record, you should be able to combine them optically into one clean version - the scratches and damage won't be in the exact same place. The more copies you have, the better quality you will get. Can't really do that with audio ...

YETI BOB:

it's also interesting to see the shape of the groove. it's got a deep V, but the elliptical stylus only makes contact with the *sides* of the groove - even on a badly-worn record, the bottom of the groove is still distinct. so you should be able to extract some signal from that too.
