Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from April 15, 2022 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Unfortunately, while the latest variants don't seem as nasty as the original, there are still deaths (have heard of them in healthy, young folks), and I haven't heard of the long COVID propensity of the variants, seems to still be unclear, but worrisome.
  12:27pm

Yes, Rabbit, it CAN lead to such sequelae, but the main point is, there's no avoiding it. Isolation is pointless unless you want to do it very stringently, i.e. never seeing anybody the rest of your life.

Sure, Rabbit, there are vaccinations, but we're already vaccinated. The number of people infected is NOT a limiting factor determining number of variants. Trying to reduce transmission is futile with omicron, which is the end game for this virus. It's always going to be with us, circulating like the common cold, but with more animal species it can infect.

If masking and distancing helped with this, it'd've done so for the common cold. There's no evidence of reduced prevalence of colds in countries where masking has been widely practiced for years now. People at Antarctic research stations have come down with colds from who knows where?

I'm not sure about the incidence of colds being the same, haven't seen data. But incidence of flu is definitely down a whole lot, there are some theories about that, maybe masking, maybe some immune boost that COVID vaccine/illness have provided.

That could well be, docjazz. An underpublicized effect Jenner noted when he administered the first vaccinia-based smallpox vaccinations was a temporary improvement in OTHER conditions, NOT ALL OF THEM EVEN INFECTIOUS! I've been working with someone for years on developing a nonspecific immune booster-modulator based on pox viruses.

But I had in mind those Asian countries that for most of this century have had lots of people wearing masks. They haven't gotten a handle on the common cold, let alone flu.

Barry White and his wife Glodean used to come into the record shop I worked at in San Pedro, CA, during the early 80s. Barry was a very demanding customer and the owner and I would be scurrying all around the store(both up front and in the back storage room) during one of his shopping sprees. He would plop his 300+ pound body on a wooden stool in the middle of the sales floor and shout out titles of singles he was looking for. Sometimes we had them, sometimes not. Unique fellow, ol' Barry! He and his wife were divorced at the time of his death, but she was still awarded control of his estate.

If there is one Elvis Costello record that his legion of fans are unfamiliar with, it would be this one. But it's actually a lot better than you would expect. Just not a rock and roll record.

Much talk of what Peter Jackson's got he just used on the 'Get Back' material - can take one timbre - say Lennon's voice - & isolate it from a cafeteria full of clatter ? The techs @ Abbey Road were amazed, even ? I'm fascinated by the idea of reading antique Analog with lasers - not even a physical stylus ...they have commercial turntables with lasers, but they say surprisingly they read the scratched & dirt more too... I'm far afield here...
