Re: girl bands- I bought the Go-Gos debut (on cassette!) back when it came out, with my after-school chores allowance, and didn’t think much of it. Just thought it was good music. It wasn’t til years later I realized how momentous it was.

Mr Fab yeh they did a lot at the mainstream level, it would have been pretty challenging for them - copping it from their punk mates (read Alice Bag's memoir of the time) and then entering the label world in the freaking 80s with all those men running those companies.

I went to the Go Go's debut show. They opened for the Dickies. After they played, Belinda sat with Rodney and we talked for a minute. I could have never guessed how big the Go Go's would become!

It was at the Roxy. Stan Lee and the Dickies were on stage and he yelled out, "I have a roll of money to give to any girl who can come up here and show me what sex really is!" Belinda jumped on stage, screamed, and took off her shirt. No kidding. Belinda got some rolled up newspapers with a dollar on the outside.
