I'd like to say a word or several about my Drummer icon :
I am only able to renew my Swag For Life status after two years of NO INCOME - as a matter of fact - thru the good Graces of other FMUvianz (not, perhaps, entirely unlike yourself).
@ the minimum rate of $10/month - one is only able to credit 12 Programs - when I'd like to acknowledge maybe three (?) Xs as many... So it came down to Programs that not only present groovy kewl & bitchen Sounds - but that also especially are Places that Welcome me / that I feel are - why mince words - like Home...

It got my kids to visit and stay the first time around...(younger one for 4 months, older one for a year and a half)...It was nice...
The current (as of 5 days ago) CDC recommendations are:
50 years of age and up if it's more than 4 months since booster is OK (strongly recommended with any chronic medical condition); 65 and up strongly recommended, again 4 months out from dose 1.
My wife just got hers yesterday (achy, 100.6 fever today, headache, thanks for asking). I don't think pharmacies are checking much if you try to schedule it.
I'll be getting mine as soon as I can set it up. Many are predicting another wave in the not too distant future...

I've read that a 5% positive rate is when you should start being concerned in any particular area. NY is just below (about 4.9%). NJ is above, some 7%. If that's correct, and what I see out there (95% or more folks NOT wearing masks any more), then it's just a matter of time.

Doug Schulkind:

I have loved Dennis González equally for the joyous, generous life he lived as for his incredible and prolific music output. He exuded humor, playfulness and invention in his creative output. And his devotion to family was always at the core of everything he did. (That track Stefan is named for a son.) In the later half of his creative life, he formed a band with his sons Aaron and Stefan with the hysterical name Yells at Eels. They were a ubiquitous presence playing around the Dallas area for decades.

Quite late in life, González took enormous pleasure being grandfather to Aaron's daughter Issy. He was constantly posting on Facebook pictures of their collaborative art projects. He even arranged for several art gallery showings of their work together. (See here: shorturl.at...) González had been courageously battling numerous devastating health issues for much of the past decade, and he chronicled his struggles openly and with a sense of wonder for his friends and fans to observe.

It was a miraculous journey he took us on.

I would consider doing a flash fill-in for Ritual Music, but I am in the throes of Pppppfffffizer shot #4 and am feeling less than stellar.

Sorry to hear, @Doug, though sounds like your immune system is doing what it should...

Aw man, Poor Natalie. Well, I guess that means I'm going to the flea market this afternoon. Crap.

My previous comment implies that I know something about the financial arrangements involved in the daagnim recordings and I absolutely do not. A better way to say what I was thinking is that Dennis Gonzalez would treat the musicians with respect and find a mutually agreeably way to make the sessions happen.

Another Sunday, another musical revelation or ten from D-O radio! Loving this trib!!

Yes, yes, @WR. Exactly right.

I don't like the name "Inner Realms Outer Realms Records." I think a label should specialize in one or the other. I mean, Jeff might have played an Inner Realm cut on destination: OUT inadvertently!

Good morning everyone and thanks Jeff for the Dennis González (who's name isn't so familiar to me). Haven't been able to give as much attention as I'd like but it's sounding great!

Lady C, if you're out there, feel better soon. We'll miss you today!

Good morning, Jeff and all! Been gathering my energies and digging the sounds for a while this morning. Catching up on the comments as well. Spring has not quite bloomed here and we are also not out of the shadow of the pandemic. Here’s wishing you all peace and good health!

I often comment that while the longterm cultural narrative is that Jazz was exclusive Hipsters - & Rawk was a mass Social revolution ...my personal experience as an introverted early GenXer (what have you) has to some degree been the opposite: Rawkers are cliquish & dismissive - while Jazzbos are welcoming & inclusive in sharing the enthusiasm for this Thing... & it seems to go along with the Jazz community that it is more than just Musics. There are all kinds of Codes & Ethics - it's a Lifestyle. Maybe always was - be it Exclusive or Inclusive... Anyhow - there's the curmudgeons - but also tale after tale these days of the Supportive people...

@RevRab, what you say is certainly true for WFMU jazz listeners. Whether it's true for the general public that likes "jazz," I don't know. Many of them will not listen to more than a minute of Cecil Taylor or Roscoe Mitchell, say.

@Doug, I have been thinking through all these comments, "Well, I had no reaction to my 3 shots, so I don't have to worry." And now I have to worry! Well, it won't stop me from getting it when my time comes.

Well - always the question of what the four little letters of 'Jazz' defines ...perhaps what I say reflects being together with others in the same place for the same Artist...

...myself - I see no problem digging PaulDesmond & CecilTaylor alike - I reckon if we only needed one of them, that's what we'd have ...but I was probly steeped in Eclecticism from the start via TheBeatles & Hendrix & PsychedelicRawk culture generally - an actually effective way for it to happen I posit...

Sometimes - it's a player's actual taste, restraint & proclivity to support others that robs them of the recognition they've earned.

Too late for the live show, but here's an additional DG recommendation from me anyway -- "A Matter of Blood" (furthermore 003). That was the album I reached for when I first heard the news of his passing. RIP.
