“Daffy” is at least mildly pejorative, but I still think it would be nice to revive

Hearing the original of "The Merry Go Round Broke Down" makes me wonder if they got inspiration from "The Music Goes Round and Round" which was a monster hit in 1935.

Hey, all!

Austin, I most def have not forgotten the Beat Farmers - buncha tracks of theirs/Handsome Dick solo gems in the Sheena stream.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm

There's an amazing essay about touring by The Beat Farmers that wound up in a Rolling Stone book I bought over 20 years ago, and I think about his criteria for finding good bathrooms on tour ALL THE TIME.

Avatar 5:23pm
spacebrother:

@ WR - Didn't know that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm

Well, I can't find the specific essay, but the book is called, "Alt-Rock-A-Rama," which lots of weird essays and stories by performers.
Avatar 📖 Swag For Life Member 5:24pm
WR:

She was 14 when she recorded Tennessee Waltz.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm
Austin Rich:

I DID find the essay by Steve Wynn about what makes a record GOOD. (It has to be: Funny, Scary, Sexy, or have the potential to fall apart at any moment.) After that, he argues why mostly his own albums only meet that criteria. It's GREAT.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm
Austin Rich:

The book also contains a "partial" Discography of SOME of the records Lester Bangs probably owned, based on all his written output. It's a pretty compelling list, for sure.
Avatar 5:26pm
spacebrother:

@ WR - I think I've played that on another show in the past. I need to read up on her.
Avatar 5:27pm
spacebrother:

@ Austin - Wynn is right! Maybe even about his own stuff. LOL.
Avatar 5:28pm
Otis:

Off to see a man (zoom call) about a horse (website). Thanks SpaceB for the injection of tunes today. Cheers all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm
Austin Rich:

I don't disagree. I just probably would let someone else decide if my own stuff even came close to that criteria, being perhaps the only difference.
  5:28pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm

@Scott67! Always a pleasure.
Avatar 5:30pm
Mr Fab:

Back in the day, I wouldn't have looked twice at a Rolling Stone book, esp. an "alt-rock" one. But reading about "Alt-Rock-A-Rama," it does look amusing.
Avatar 5:30pm
Mr Fab:

that "Long Tall Sally" made Little Richard sound like Pat Boone.
Avatar 5:31pm
spacebrother:

Wow - I'm getting all the dates wrong.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm
Austin Rich:

There's some pretty funny bits in there. (And lots of "tid-bit" style lists and things.

Another great from that book: every side-project by members of REM, including all the weird experimental solo art stuff that Michael Stipe did under NSFW names.
