And now folks just imagine you're 15 and you've brought this single home from the shop and THAT'S the day Mom insists on looking at what you bought. Just go to Discogs and read all the song titles off the back of this single and imagine your bemused and sarcastic mom reading them all out loud

Hi Rich in Kitch! I think the original TV series was more or less one giant album, bookended by his Coke ads.

I was 25 in 83. I was deep into Jamaican music, New Orleans RnB, funk, I mostly heard Eurythmics via tv
Avatar 1:34pm
Mr Fab:

Yep, I
I had more than a few of these, from the days when I had regularly stocked 12” bins. My fave format there for a while.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm

Bri - I hope it's taking you back in a GOOD way, 8th grade was basically Prison Pit for me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm

I remember a high school party when this was followed by Sally MacLennane to great effect

Very exciting period- really felt like electronics were opening up a whole new musical vocabulary.
  1:39pm
Bri:

88 was hands down the best year for club music, you had the birth of Acid House!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm
fred:

Another tip: being very drunk probably helps that segue to work (it usually helps when The Pogues are involved)
  1:39pm
Bri:

Oh and MADCHESTER
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm

Interesting, "I'm Tired of Getting Pushed Around" is on CD all over the place but I didn't think this cut existed on CD - actually it was released just once on an IRS sampler: www.discogs.com...

I shared my birthday with a girl in my class in senior year of high school, so for a change I was invited to the party, and even got to pick a track. I chose Four Enclosed Walls (PiL) and was never invited again

Hi Bri, ha yes, he's in the other room listening to Bob Brainen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm

I requested this on a pop station once and the DJ was so bored he started dubplating it, then faded before the ending. Missed this sample freakout

Oh no Fred! Love your choice though! Bold move

Sounds interesting, fred. I like covers like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm
fred:

@Bri: The next time I got to pick a song at a party (years later), I pulled out Steve Reich's Drumming, and everybody went wild (trying to keep up at first, then giving up, but in a good way)

Kat in Chicago:

It’s weird how there were two different A-E-I-O-U songs around kind of the same time

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm
Will the Sound Guy:

Clean vinyl #1! Wav files are legit. Flac is cool. AAC is ok. MP3 is standard. Perfect cassettes. Excellent CDs 💿.... substandard media acceptable onl6 if the music is good...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm
ironybread:

thanks Otis, I must check out "Digital Display"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm
MHLee:

Flacs take up more space
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm
Will the Sound Guy:

Personally I'm 100% good with MP3 VBR 0.. I encode all the shows I record like that... Average bit rate ends up 225kb... I honestly don't use flac much
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm
fred:

@MHLee: than what? Not wav for sure; than mp3 yeah, but that's where the loss trade-off comes in
  2:35pm
Kat in Chicago:

Oh boy. Mr. Roboto. You went there.
Avatar 2:35pm
HyperDose:

I prefer WAV over FLAC. 320 kbps 48kHz CD rips for mobile devices. LAME encoding over Fraunhofer at the slowest speed.

Mr. Roboto likes wav files, they go down smooth... lol

@Will: try calling a linguist a translator, then call a percussionist a drummer. Both could get violent, but percussionist violence can be way more creative

@fred that's funny
